Confusion about FSscene textures

Featured Replies

Hi,Ok, I am a little confused about FSscene textures, and the way in which they work.I notice that there are a number of packs for various regions in the world, and under each of those there are 4 packs for each season.Do you just install one pack at once, e.g. europe winter, and these textures show all round the world, and at any season, or do all the packs "co-exisist" with each other?CheersDan.

Hi Dan,Yes all packs Co-Exist with each other. So in a nut Shell if you were to buy say Europe Winter/Fall/Summer/Spring today, You can install all four and it will pick the relevent textures for the current season that FS is set to. I Guess that in order for there to be a seasonal variation in any case FS2004 has four differnt txtures by default.A word of warning though, back up what its going to overwrite, although it looks way better than the default FS2004 textures.Hope this helps.Jason

Cheers Jason,Not sure if I will buy, seem a touch expensive, but they have a Christmas offer on at the moment. The screenies look pretty nice though......Dan.

Hi Dan,Id highly recomend them, although you can leave the winter ones as I think they dont bring much to the party, and sometimes there is snow in places that just dont have snow in winter such as here in london, however ****This is my opinion****.Talking about prices.. I thnk ive bought every scenery and plane addon there is in the last 3 weeks.. if the futer wife finds the bill i could just be flying solo for a while :)On another note... Do you have the SCDS Yak 40? If so are you thinking of doing any repaints for it?CheersJason

"and sometimes there is snow in places that just dont have snow in winter such as here in london"Ahh.....we get plenty of snow up here in Norfolk!! ;)Yeah, I know what you mean, I am now VERY selective on what I buy, but I do feel the ground textures in FS do lack something, I have tried the various freeware packs in the library, but none of them do that much for me.The YAK40?, yeah, I have it, I hadn't though about doing any paints, as SCDS seem to have all of them pretty well wrapped up, plus there is no paintkit been released.Dan.

dano, IMHO wait to see what Lennart puts out shortly with his new textures. Always a huge improvement and a bit more realistic than what I have seen with FS Scene. Personally I think thier rendition of the terrain is a bit too colorful. Check in the libraries also, I have several add-ons that tweak some thing slike rural fields, forests and also Bluesphere that add up to a decent and believable package. I'll be using Lennart's when they hit the streets.Hornit

FS uses different textures for each season indeed. There is an overlap period between seasons in which one set is slowly replaced by another.Similarly FS has different texture sets for different area (again, with a fading effect in the places where areas touch). Some textures do exist in more than one set, these you'll find in every FScene package and all over the world even when you buy only 1 set.Apart from that you'll find the FScene textures in the purchased areas only (plus as I explained fading into the defaults in the boundary areas).
