KSEA Procedures

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what happens in KSEA when the GLASR or EPHRATA STAR is used for landing South on runways 16 L or R? According to the STAR, aircraft turn heading 250 after HETHR and await vectors for final. Trouble is, at 10 or 12,ooo feet and only a short distance from final ILS intercept (DGLAS @ 1900 feet), this does not seem adeaquate and makes for a very short final. Do you know if aircraft are turned off the STAR earlier than HETHR, or if they are vectored from HETHR back downwind for a longer final?

The text portion of both procedures (landing south)- "Heading 250 for vectors to final approach course". If you got that far on the STAR ATC would then vector and drop you down from there.

You get turned downwind and usually go out at least 10-12 miles. If there is enough trafic you go out even farther, well north of the city to join the localizer inbound and either an ILS or visial, should be plenty of time to get down. In the real world if you get in close and are not in a decent position, you tell them you need more room. It does hapen occasionally, controllers are not perfect.Hornit
