Doubt about 4 monitors setup

Featured Replies

My plan is 2x 23" screens for main view and 2x19" for instruments

My doubts:

1- Do I need a SLI or can just buy a mainstream VGA for the 2x19? (Not sure if both can be active at the same time if not in an array)

2- How much would be the performance loss compared with if I had a single screen plugged on the same main VGA?

Thanks in advance.

I'm clueless on multi-monitor setups so anything will help me.

Hi Lucas.

You don't need SLI.

Adding another low spec card will work but it could degrade the performance of your main card.

If it is time for an upgrade it might be better to invest in a single current generation card that can handle four monitors by itself.

As for performance drop, if you are talking VC instruments it will be huge.

If 2D, then not so much.

What are your current system specs?

Hi GB, My system specs are

i7 2700K

8GB 1600

GTX 760 (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1DP)

W7 prof 64

- I have 2 VGA monitors already so I would have to buy a conversor to displayport I guess.

- Still need to buy the 2 bigger screens.

- What I want to do is to undock PFD, ND and EICAS from the NGX and show them in the 2x 19.

What do you suggest?

Thank you!

That 760 should not have much trouble handling the two 19"s.

Yes you would need the two adaptors unless you can find at least one 19" with HDMI.

I don't think there is any chance of finding a 19" monitor with DisplayPort. ?

You would only need the cheaper passive DisplayPort to DVI adaptor though, not the more expensive active ones.

Does your motherboard have on-board video?

If it does you could experiment with connecting the 19's to it and see if they will run

side by side with the 760, before you spend money on the adaptors.

If it performs ok you can stop there otherwise get the adaptors for the 760.

Opps, I thought you had the 23"s and were looking for two 19"s.

But you really have two 19"s now and are getting two new 23"s.

Is that right?

That's correct.

My motherboard does not have an IGP.

Since there is a DVI-I port I could use it for one VGA and buy just 1 adapter.

But then I would have to buy 2 different 23", one DVI +  one HDMI or DP.

Or I can buy 2 active adapters and use the DP and HDMI for both VGA displays, and then to buy 2 identical 23" (DVI)

Unless I can pick a model with both interfaces.

Hey now I'm really confused. :)

Whatever you get you will be able to "adapt" your way out.

Maybe you should start with what model 23"s you are getting?

A lot these days have both DVI and HDMI inputs.

Some have DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort.

Hehe ok thanks for your help.

BTW, does anyone know what's the process to create this at software level?

I can't even see desktop management options at Nvidia control panel, maybe because I have a single screen right know.

There will be a option on the left of the nvidia control panel to "Setup Multiple Displays".

The new monitors just need to be activated, positioned and resolution set.

Can also be done in Windows.
