December 30, 201312 yr Hello, I'm using a ASUS G73 JH i7 Core laptop. It can reach speeds up to 2.8 GHz. I have a pretty decent Graphics card, the ATI Mobility Radeon 5870. I'm trying to get the maximum FPS possible without compromising looks. I don't need autogen or density set to full, however, I don't want the world to look like crap as well. Any tips? December 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Go into your FMC's option menu, and turn the display FPS down to 15. It's a big game changer. Also, some people say unticking high-definition cockpit doesn't make much of a difference and provides a pretty bug performance boost. Good luck! Aamir Thacker
December 30, 201312 yr I'm also running on a laptop hooked up to a 1920x1080 monitor, that has a turbo boost to 2.8 (can actually do 3.1, but won't for FSX- no idea why?). Anyways.. truth is, you need to turn down those settings. I have everything so low most people would hate my simulator. But it doesn't bother me, since I fly to fly - not to look at a pretty mountain. Giving the aircraft all your performance and quality over the environment is a fantastic idea in my opinion. I have all the REX textures on minimum too. Now I do a bit of tweaking in Nvidia Inspector, which obviously wouldn't work for you. I'm not sure if there's something similar for ATI? As far as FSX CFG goes, I've changed about four things. Those are; View to true - Bufferpools off - Texture Load 4096 - Highme fix. My laptop is affected greatly by the FSX mouse bug unfortunately too. Can be a loss of 5FPS at times - which is a lot for me. Be very wary of your weather engine settings too. I have cloud draw distance to 60 miles and upper visibility is the same. Best part about low environment settings? Never seen an OOM in my life and my VAS has never hit 2GB! Flying for 15 hours and going in the FSX menu to save is no concern at all. I tried FTX but the frames I lost weren't worth it to me. Since I average 20 in flight - dropped me to 10! Addon airports is about 15 and default is also around 20. With all that said, here's an example of how my FSX looks in general. If you'd like to try my CFG drop me a PM. - Luke Pabari
