Error message when extracting files

Featured Replies

I'm attempting to re-install RC 4.3 to a clean copy of FSX.  When in process of extracting the compressed files from the RC 4.3 CD to my Hdd, the process stops after reaching approximately 80% of completion with the error message reflecting error code 0x80004005.

The file that is having the problem is rcv43-1.bin which is the largest of the 3 files contained on the CD.

Anyone have any possible solutions?  Thanks very much for any information.

Have you right clicked on the installer file on the CD and selected run as admin? Do you know where it stopped?

The alternative is to download it. Send a link with your old e-mail address and new one if changed plus your user name from your first registration with the error code to jd xx jdtllc.com for the link to download the last version (4.3 build 3845). As the subject put failed install from CD and give details. Include your Win version as well.

Ron, thanks.

There are three files on the DVD. rcv43 (application), rcv43-0.bin (BIN file) and rcv43-1.bin (BIN file).  rcv43 and rcv43-1 are compressed.  rcv43-0 shows compression at "0 %".

I'm familiar with the "run as administrator" option but when I right-click the rcv43 application file contained on the DVD,  all it lists are "Open", "copy" and "properties".    If I double-click rcv43 or select Open, It shows a dialogue box where I can click "extract all" but again, there is no "run as administrator" selection available.  And an attempt to extract the files over to a folder on my hdd on my desktop repeatedly results in the above stated problem with the error code.

Is there any way to force it to run with the administrator option even with that option unavailable?

Otherwise, I guess I will contact jd and see if he can send me another file as you suggest.

You need to open the CD using my computer by right clicking on it and choose explore. Then in the menu bar click Tools/Folder Options/View. Then click to uncheck Hide Known Extensions.

The CD I received of the first released distribution was RC 4.1. Here's the ICON view of its contents:

Note the .exe extension now shows.

This is for Win XP and for 7 or 8 it might be different.

It is the .exe file that you right click on and if you get run as admin do that. If not do properties/advanced/run as admin/ OK/Apply/OK.

The downloaded .zip file looks similar for RCV43.
