graphics card

Featured Replies

Hey,

can someone tell my, what he has for a graphics card. Can you advise your graphics card?

Because I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (from Gigabyte) (she is ok, but the graphics in the cockpit are not as good as on photos or videos of other people.)

Thanks

Happy new year

This is your GPU driver settings - the 460 is capable of the same AA/AF settings everyone else uses.

And what do you mean exactly when you say it does not look good?

The resolution? (is 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 (depending in your monitor) set in FSX?)

Or do you have shimmering scenery/cockpit? (requires stronger AA settings)

Or tearing? (try using the 1/2Vsync method)

Or stutters? (is be caused by the weakest link in your PC)

Or Graphical artifacts/errors? (do you have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the FSX.cfg?)

I mean with not so nice:

-The color does look different to pictures from PMDG or other people.

-I can not read what is writen on the copilots side (i mean the buttons where is written ENG, CHK, DOOR, ELC,....).

-I looks for me pixelated.

Are the drivers up to date, what resolution is the display on, Is your Bios set up correctly, have you ever had the system working properly or has this only just happened. Please list your system details.

Buying a stronger Graphics card will not help you because your CPU cant handle that.

Things need to be matched to prevent one PC component bottlenecking the other.

So fast (overclocked) CPU (i7 4770k @4.5Ghz) with GTX780

Medium CPU with GTX770

Slow CPU with ...I dont know realy but GTX460 sounds fine.

Your picture looks fine to me.

Yes it is not too sharp, but I dont know what the resolution of that picture is either.

What resolution are you using in FSX?

And what reolution is your monitor?

Colours: you might have to change your monitors colour settings!

Sharpness: in the FSX settings under the aircraft tab, make sure you have selected HD...(or high quality?) VC cockpit!......(dont know what it is called from memory)

The resolution of my monitor is 1920x1080 (i use them in FSX, too).

I have.

I will try, then it might look a bit better.

Thank you very much for your tips.

Sure, you are welcome.

I am not at home so I can not check at the moment.

But I have had no problem reading the buttons you talked about (Display Select Panel switches).

But I do fly from the copilot seat and I have created camera views with OPUS that have me sit quite close to the MCP so everything is easy to read and reach.

(If you press "A" once then you can try what it looks like for you from the FO seat)

I could take a look how readable things are at PMDG's default views once I am back home.

Have a nice trip, Rob.

Yes, when i am sitting on the copilots seat, i can read them (Display Select Panel switches). But it is difficult from pilots seat.

I have done some experiments with the monitor colour settings. It is better now. Thanks again.

PS (The photo i have posted is not so significant, because i had to minimize the photo).

I have tried the new drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 again (I have tried them in September already and deinstalled them after some problems.). I tried now again, but their was some problems again. But I will try further.

Anyway, thank you very much.

The thing with GPU drivers is to stick with one that works once you have found them.

(I am not saying you are not doing that already.)

And to update them you have to uninstall them just like you uninstall software.

Thereafter you have to do a CLEAN install of the desired drivers.

(otherwise your old drivers might reinstall and nothing changed!)

I will send you a link per PM.
