PSS Airbus or Fs9 Lighting.....?

Featured Replies

I've been 'flying' the PSS Airbus since around May 2002, both in FS2002 and Fs9 (Not all the time, but about 70% of my Flight Sim time)- I try to avoid night flights but really the PSS Panel at night is a joy to behold; many default Airport buildings are well lit also. My problem is that when landing at night the experience is ruined, for me anyway, because either the aircraft landing lights or the runway/taxiway are far too bright.Does anyone know how to, either brighten the runway/taxiway lighting or dim the aircraft landing lights? On my PC it's not only my PSS Airbus but any aircraft; I highlight(no pun intended) the PSS Airbus because it's my favourite aircraft. Running onto the grass at the end of a perfect landing just sucks :)Any help would be appreciated.KenSomerset, England

Hi Ken,try this, put the folowing text into you're FS9 .cfg file, assuming that you know where it is.[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales edge, center, end, touchdown, runways RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0 // scales VASI lights)RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.0 // scales approach light bars RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales RAILs and ODALs)(alter the 1.0 etc to 1.5 or 0.7 etc to try different lighting brightnesses)use you're own framerate etc, and texture bandwidth too, I used mine to show you better where it goes, then to make the A/C Lights look better, try the spotligh.zip, and yes, I did spell it correctly.make a back up copy in my pictures or similar of the default spotlight.bmp from the FS9 Texture folder, in case you don't like the new one, but I find it very good.hope this helps, and is not too complicated to follow.

There are also a few d/l's available which alter the light beam on the ground and dim the lights a tad. I use one (can't remember the name) but it looks really good. There's one I remember that even allows you to change the type of bulb (halogen, etc), should you be that decisive.

Hi Steve,What can I say......except Superb, I cannot believe the improvement. You're a Star!If anyone else is watching, I could not find the spotligh.zip in the avsim.com Library; I had to go elsewhere.Attached is a .jpg from the cockpit window of my PSS A321, stupendous; sorry it's a little blurry, that's my fault.KenSomerset, England

Hi Ken.I'm gald it worked out for you, I don't know about you, but I just love night flying, but the best bit as you have hinted is the approach, all those lights etc, I think that by what you have said, it's yours too . . .

Unfortuneately, while I like the new landing light texture alos, been using it since its release, it does effect certain a/c. The PSS Dash 8 will not produce any landing lights with this file. I forget the other a/c I have that it ruins the landing lights on, but it does improve it on most of them!Rick

Hi Steve,Well, I've been avoiding night flying 'like the plague' for over a year now, because of the blinding white light problem. But Sunday night I moved my aircraft from the USA to Gatwick UK where it was night time; my PSS Airbus panel lights came on.....I thought I've got to see if something can be done about these blinding landing lights! This is where you came in; I've now asked to be re-rostered to night flights only :)I landed at Ferihegy, Budapest last night and it took my breath away, absolutely perfect, turned off the runway and drove to the Terminal, the lighting all the way was something else. Thanks again for your help.KenSomerset, England

Hi Carmine,Thanks for your post, those pics of yours are very good. Did you have a look at my .jpg a little higher up in this thread? That picture shows the lighting exactly as I wanted it; not too dark, not too light (blinding glare), but just right. In my humble opinion. I guess if you asked 10 flight sim pilots to would most likely get 10 opinions :)KenSomerset, England
