Why not try setting ani and AA to "let the software set?"

Featured Replies

Hey all,I just had the best flight I've had in a long time, and what I did to get that is no miracle. Lately I've been having just a terrible time w/ stuttering both in turns on the ground and in the air. Really bad. Just took all the joy out of flying. I had got to the point of just not bothering. But the simming is in my veins, so I finally got fed up and got rid of the Riva Tuner, and a bunch of other tweaks that had been suggested and then reinstalled the latest drivers for my card, and for the heck of it, set the anti-aliasing and anisotropic settings to "off" "let the software set itself" choice and "Quality" setting. Then went for a flight. Everything was soooooooo smooooooth. I maxed everything, and I mean everything. Scenery, Generated scenery, draw distance, cloud distance (for the weather I use AS2004.5/b163 and FSSkyworld 2004). It was like butter. It brought this huge grin to my face. I did one of the flights from the recently uploaded Xtreme Bush Adventures (which I hope they make more of, by the way, just excellent), and everything remained smooooth. No stutters AT ALL. I mean that. NADA. I couldn't believe it. And the graphics remained very good, for my tastes. I've uploaded some pics so you can see for yourselves. So for those of you w/ lower systems like myself, why not try turning off the anisotropic and aliasing, and see how your systems perform. I was finally able to do a touch and go on RW 050 at Courchevel (LFLJ) which requires smoooth handling, and w/ everything maxed. I'm just beside myself. I realize this might not be for everyone, but I just can't get over the difference in performance. Please view the attached pics and judge for yourself. Would pics like these suffice for buttery frame-rates?My system is modestP4 1.8GHzXP Home256MB RamNvidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 - 66.93 driversDirectX 9.0c

Nice shots and a useful tip. What is the 300/04 next to the Compass? Is that a wind speed readout Mod, and if so, where did you get it?Thanks,JoeJOIN The AVSIM RTW RACE FLIGHT TEAM****************Grab My FREEWARE Cessna 172 Voice recognition Profile here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

No wonder you can

People need to have realistic expectations of the performance they can expect to get out of their hardware. The fact is that advanced filtering like anti-aliasing and aniso require a significant amount of horsepower and if you happen to have a system that is borderline to begin with for running a given app (FS9 for instance), adding fsaa and aniso to the mix is simply not going to yield good results. Think of it this way - by adding a single level of fsaa (ie. 2X) to the sim you are essentially doubling the screen resolution the PC has to handle. If you are running 1152x864 with 2x fsaa you are in essence running 2304x864 resolution. That's an over-simplification of the process but its an effective way of viewing the extra demands being placed on the system. Afaic, on any monitor 20" or less in size, anything more than 4x fsaa is a complete waste of resources unless you truly have a killer system. On my 17" monitor, 1152x864x32 w/2xfsaa and 2x aniso yields an extremely smooth and appealing image quality and still allows me to maintain good framerates. That's a good thing too becuase my Geforce4Ti4200 isn't capable of good performance at higher fsaa/aniso settings...

Yeah particularly nvidia cards prior to 6800 is very slow with antialiasing. 6800 has copied ATI:s scheme more or less so is much better in that regard though still not as fast as the X800 but probably because of other reasons factoring.

I built my friends machine and unfortunately went with the fx5950 ultra. Great card but I agree with the horrible AA performance. Too bad ATI can never get their drivers correct. When I build my system I will get an ATI card but only because I don't play any other games.

Though at the beginning there was issues with that too but the time where ATI drivers got on the same level was about half a year after 8500 was released. Nowadays they are ahead of nVidia really.

It comes w/ Randy Burtons default panel for the cessna. He also has one for the lear, baron, and beech. They all come with aircraft config tweaks such as the instrument you mentioned plus lighting on the fuselage as well as better flight characteristics. Give them a try. I don't fly w/out them now. (barpan.zip, learpan.zip, cespan.zip, and beechpan.zip). I may have named them wrong, so just type his name in the field and you'll get them. The wind instrument, as well as the altitude bar come in very handy.I'm hoping he makes one for the default Cessna Amphib.Cheers mate!
