Hat switch in OPUS (P3Dv2)

Featured Replies

Following some excellent help here from Stephen, Cheryl and others, I have finally gotten my OPUS cameras to work well, regarding placement, etc., in P3Dv2.

I have not done anything to configure OPUS cameras for my hat switch (CH Yoke USB).  I have noted that the hat switch doesn’t appear to pan the view as I would expect-  this is at most times when looking at an aircraft view that has been created and saved in OPUS.  However at times I have noted that when I start up P3Dv2 again and go to one of my pre-created OPUS views, the hat switch does work until I change views, then it doesn’t. I need to check if other non-OPUS views in P3Dv2 stock aircraft are also affected in this way, which would make it a larger issue than just OPUS (I’m at work now).

Last night when this was happening I did check my hat switch in FSX, so it’s not a hardware issue.

I checked this forum at AVSIM for an answer-  several questions were regarding the hat switch but were more directed at allowing it to actually chnage views, or invoke a mouse-view (center button) control.

Thanks,  Bruce.

Are you talking about VC or 2D view types. If VC then I have no idea as even DHM will only alter the XYZ eye point. This is not possible in 2D views so DHM tries to adjust PBY (pitch, bank, and yaw). The PBY would conflict with the hat switch panning which is also altering PBY.

Opus does not read or interfere with the hat switch at all so the only conflict could come with PBY updates. It is possible to associate hat switch actions with key or button commands I believe in FSUIPC4, some user have done that to switch views using the hat switch.

The hat switch, if left unaltered in FSUIPC4, should always work perfectly with VC views, I use it myself but mostly in FSX.

Ok, I think I may have found this issue.

Firstly, I am using FSUIPC (registered) for all of my controllers, however I never did run the hat "switch" through FSUIPC…  maybe I should have. I'm also running Win 8.0.  I have heard about the controller dropout thing with Win 8, but to this day I have never seen it on FSX or XPX.

But maybe this is the issue here-  as I have discover that whenever I can't pan (and not necessarily when OPUS is running),  all of my controllers (other than the "mouse look" and "mouse view" are not present in P3Dv2.  However,  the reverse is not always true-  I can have the controllers missing in P3Dv2, but can pan, other controller axes work.

I'm also using the Airbus X Extended (latest version),  which may be a factor here, although I have seen this issue on other aircraft too-  they were ones that I had set up views in OPUS too so that's why I connected the issue to OPUS.

Weird stuff- I see that the next P3Dv2 patch may have a fix for the Win 8 controller issue, if in fact that is what is happening here….

Thanks, Bruce.
