February 3, 201412 yr Hi there!, I have a little question about rl procedures: why is it mandatory to turn off the avionics prior to the start of any turboprop enginge? - and isn't for jet-engines?Thanx! Tom Berger
February 3, 201412 yr Commercial Member why is it mandatory to turn off the avionics prior to the start of any turboprop enginge? It's not so much the issue of turboprop versus jet. It's more of an issue of the specific aircraft. Other aircraft have systems to protect the avionics (electronics, etc) from overloading that could happen during the engine start. This one doesn't. February 3, 201412 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the answer Kyle! Hope you appreciate that I did read the manuals :-) haha - you're welcome. And yes! Also, I didn't add this earlier, but more info: Since props tend to start off of the battery and not an APU that has its own generator, turning the avionics off also frees up a lot of power for the start, which keeps battery temps down. When I worked ramp at IAD, SAABs could start off the battery, but doing so too much could overtemp the battery, which was made worse in the summer. As such, we always had to go digging around for GPUs (because ours were always broken - our rampies didn't understand the concept of idle cool downs after use...no matter how many times I said it). February 3, 201412 yr Author Yeah - hehe - ... not new reading only new posting ... thanx for the explanations once more ... I had the JetStream for a few years now and ever had failed to get her started - when I took a new (serious) plunge just after I recently purchased the Metroliner and then remembered the venerable JS41. After diggin into the manuals I finally succeeded... and I think it's the nicest turbo in FSX - even in regard of the Majestic Dash. Btw - I totally failed to put some banners into my singnature - some advice please? Tom Berger
