Lightening from Ground-No Clouds

Today I was flying at 20,000 with lightening in many places below,flashing images on the ground,but no clouds visible.

 

The weather is correct as per the weather gauge but at this particular height the clouds were not visible.

 

Also getting quite a lot of cloud popping.

 

Any help/observations would be appreciated.
