March 1, 201412 yr As the title says running REX4 with prepar3dv2.1 Happy with my Rex settings and my themes but not sure what I should be using as settings for the in game options for things like clouds (do I set this to detailed?)/water (do I set this to ultra for example or does it matter)/HDR - to get the most out of REX4 - noting that REX4 basically applies its own textures over the top of the original prepar3d ones?
March 2, 201412 yr Why don't play a bit with the settings and find it out by yourself? Everything depends on your rig and your taste. Spirit
March 2, 201412 yr Author Spirits - thanks for the reply. But what I was getting at is that when you are running REX4 do these settings actually mean/do anything - for example if you set water to ultra is it doing anything or overwritten by the REX4 settings for water (or does it improve the REX4 effect by selecting ultra in game) or if you set cloud coverage density to high does it do anything or is it overwritten by your REX4 settings - hope this clarifys my questions
March 2, 201412 yr REX4 is changing textures and installing them into your P3D. It doesn't change any settings in your P3D. Rex4 is used once to select your textures, save them into a profile and install all or part of it into P3D. That's all. REX4 need not to run while you're using P3D. You need to start it again if you want change some of your textures. But for some kind of textures (HD etc.) you need to adjust your settings in P3D the right way or the effect wont come well. All this is described very well in the REX4 manual. Spirit
March 3, 201412 yr Author spirit not sure you are completely understanding my question!............. I realise rex4 overwrites the water textures - however I am trying to understand what happens in game if you then adjust the water from ultra to low with rex4 running (is there any impact or is there an optimal in game setting that gives you the best benefit from rex4) didn't find such a good explanation in the manual hence why I am asking!(also want to improve my fps without ruining the rex4 experience by turning everything off/on low which I notice some people appear to be doing with rex4 running)

March 4, 201412 yr The settings in the sim do the exact same to REX4 textures as they do to default textures. So if you want 3D waves you need to set water to Ultra, just like you would with the default water animations. And if you want all the the detail in the clouds, set the setting to detailed. Every setting will work with REX 4 textures as it will with default textures so the choice is up to you. Obviously setting water detail in P3D to off will make REX 4 water stuff totally useless and turning off detailed clouds will make the clouds look bad. In short: the sim settings certainly do matter. Common sense should get you where you want to (installing 4096 res clouds but limiting the sim to 512 isn't common sense) and you will have to find your own settings that give enough eye candy without hurting performance too much.
