March 26, 201412 yr Long story short, problem arrises and I decide to reformat and reload everything and do some things different (like make P3D my primary flight sim). I have almost everything the way I want it except: weather I want to remote the weather on a different system. The last couple of years I have purchased ASE, AS2012, ASN and REX Essential + OverDrive, of all these I cannot get to work with Prepar3D except AS2012 if I ######ize it. Before anyone gets crazy, yes I have submitted a ticket to HiFi, but the my problem seems to be the same as others have and still have not been resolved and REX I only use for the texture, weather program is terrible. Then I read were someone said try OPUS - I read about it, downloaded the trial software and I have a network connection so that problem has been laid to rest, but now I have some questions: 1. The main reason for having my weather remoted was to off-load my Primary PC's CPU and memory, so that I can crank up the visuals on the primary, but I noticed that you have to install OPUS on both computers to run in a network, so is it worth having OPUS networked? Does OPUS save me any CPU / memory if I am running a network version? 2. In the installation for network, I see that if I want to use the camera's it states that I need to load FSX or P3D on both systems, are thye saying that I need 2 copies-one on each system of P3D to run this feature? 3. How much load does OPUS put on a system if I decide to just leave it on my primary? Sorry to ask so many questions but as you can see I have 3 weather programs and before I buy OPUS I would like to see if it is worth it based on others who have it now!
March 26, 201412 yr Commercial Member The operation of the OpusFSX Live Weather Engine (LWE) does not have any adverse effect on the simulator's performance, it is also far more efficient to run the engine on the same machine as the simulator. You should bare in mind that all modern computer systems employ multicore processors. All the OpusFSX features do not interfere with the simulators operation and operate in there own processor cores and in their own address space. So the LWE running as part of the external OpusFSX FSXSERVER program does not interfere with or have any adverse effect on the simulator. Furthermore, due to the real time control and supervision that the LWE is responsible for (e.g. The weather engine's real time supervision of aircraft turbulence), it would be very inefficient to offload the weather engine onto a networked system. Firstly, offloading would not have any positive effect on the simulator, secondly the offloaded engine would have to communicate in real time over the LAN in order for the same real time control to be effective. This process would in fact most likely have an adverse effect on the simulator, it certainly would not have any positive effect or result in any increased performance. Since our LWE is designed to have NO adverse effect or interfere with the simulators performance at all, it simply would not be beneficial to move the weather engine onto a networked system, quite the reverse. As for offloading camera views then yes, you do need to install and activate FSX on the networked system (no need to purchase a second copy and no need for it to be Prepar3D). Of course, the simulator and scenery is needed since it is the simulator that is rendering the screen based in the current attitude of the aircraft. The reason why this is useful is that the simulators performance can be adversely effected when it has to render multiple windows. Hence, offloading views is useful, but obviously does need a simulator to render the views. Stephen
