I want to use the PBD (Place Bearing Distance) feature of the FMC and add this way point using it's lat/long:

 

40-48-33.480N 073-38-19.750W

 

But what kind of format is that? It's not in a format that the CDU will accept.

 

I tried looking at lat/long conversion formats and did not find this one.

 

It defines the location of an IFR way point in the New York area.

 

I'd like to convert it into a lat/long format that the CDU will accept.

That's degrees-minutes-seconds-decimal seconds. IIRC, you just need to convert it to degrees-minutes-decimal minutes for entry into the FMC.

So...40-48-33.480N 073-38-19.750W would convert to:

 

N4048.5W07338.3

 

Is that conversion right?

With rounding, the latitude should be 4048.6 but yea.
