FS9 on my TV??

Featured Replies

It occurs to me ( a bit late in the day) that I could connect my Radeon 9800 Pro card to my Philips 36" flat screen TV, using a 7-pin S-video out to SCART cable, and fly FS9 using the TV as my monitor. Has anyone tried 'flying on TV' instead of the PC monitor? I would be a bit worried about the native resolution making the whole thing look disappointing. The only cable I can find (after e-mailing ATI) ships from the States (I'm in the UK) so don't want to waste time and money or a white elephant..Thanks in advance for any advice - especially from personal experience of trying the same thing.Martin S.

TVs don't typically have the resolution that a monitor does. I tried it with my 51" Soney. Used s-video out and in. The best mine could do is 1024x... Sitting back, it didn't look to bad. But when I moved up close ( the purpose of this experiment was to fill my field of view ) the clarity was definitely not great. I could fly small AC in VC and it was kind of cool as long as I wasn't trying to actually do much on the panel. It did give me that extra sensation of movement. Kind of like a roller coaster in IMAX but not as clear. If you have to buy a special cable, I'm not sure I would bother. I could get a DVI-HDMI for mine but it is a pretty expensive cable. Not sure how much it would improve things and I'm not sure how much the family is going to like me taking over the TV for flight sim. :-lol Dave

I have had it on my TV, a 46" Plasma panel, but I have a DVI input socket on it ;)Looking pretty cool, but was limited to 1024 x 768 though.Dan.
