February 6, 200521 yr Has anyone purchased "Wings over Vietnam? Is it any good? I almost picked it up today, but I've been disappointed too many times not to wait for some feedback. Thanks!Jim
February 6, 200521 yr I have it. I am a little dissapointed. My expectations for this were higher. It's much more of an arcade game than a true combat flight sim, note: there is no trim, no real bombing sight for strike missions, and the scenery kind of stinks. Other than that it's amusing, as a simple flight combat game, and I say, 'game' because it's far from a sim. Anyway, whether you should get it or not depends on what you are looking for, if you have any other questions about it, please ask. To give you some type of comparison, if you are familiar with LOMAC, LOMAC is an awesome, realistic combat flight simulation, everything from scenery to clouds to weapon systems are true to life, everything except AWACS that is, although it would be difficult to impress me in that area since I fly on AWACS in real life.Jeff USAF Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
February 6, 200521 yr Thanks Jeff, guess I'll pass. I was hoping more for something maybe less complex than Falcon 4.0 but at least on a par with the Jane's sims. Jim
February 7, 200521 yr >>>"...no real bombing sight for strike missions,"Uh...ok...You do realise that CCIP was NOT common on jets during the VN war, right?I happen to know a former Rhino driver who did strike missions over in SEA, and he ended up writing a tutorial on how to be accurate with iron, using the non-CCIP simple gunsight, for Strike Fighters. He wrote the tutorial and it should still be available at www.simhq.com Andy Bush flew the Starfighter before the Phantom2 (Rhino), and the A-10 in Germany before retiring from the military. Since then he's had a long career flying airliners, and is now teaching pilots in a simulator for the new Embraer 170.
