Aircraft "organizer"?

Featured Replies

I find it difficult to locate a specific plane in my aircraft folder (with sim running) very often. I have so many 757s, 737s, CRJs, etc, that I thought it would be very helpful to have a way to organize the planes by type rather than by manufacturer or payware company. Is there a program to help organize planes according to our specific parameters as opposed to the way it is now?Any organizational ideas out there?

I use AFCAD/Tools/Aircraft Editor for that. With it you can search your aircrafts by manufacturer, type or livery.Other option is to edit the cfg-files of the aircraft. You can type anything you want as the manufacturer and you will find that aircraft under that name in your FS.http://www.kotiposti.net/syrjamaki/maambanner.jpg

Great idea....editing the config. Didn't think I could do that and not affect something else. Thanks.

If ya have a large number of birds, creating a standard ID technique -- that works for you -- is very important. Here is how I handle itI set up the aircraft.cfg file to reflect how I want to group and display the planes. I'll use an iFDG Airbus as an exampletitle=A319-111 CFM China Eastern Airlinessim=A319_CFM_IFDG_011model=cfmpanel=sound=texture=EAkb_checklists=kb_reference=atc_id=F-GJHZatc_airline=China Easternatc_flight_number=1231atc_heavy=0ui_manufacturer=iFDG Airbus <<-- Developer & Mfgrui_type=A319-114 <<-- Model ui_variation=China Eastern Airlines <<-- airline-----------------------------Another example from the new Kittyhawk series would look lioke thistitle=Boeing 737-700_KH Lufthansa OCsim=737700model=panel=sound=texture=Lufthansa OCkb_checklists=Boeing737-400_checkkb_reference=Boeing737-400_refatc_id=D-ABIAatc_airline=Privatairatc_flight_number=1123ui_manufacturer=Kittyhawk Boeingui_type=737-700 (Set 2)ui_variation=Lufthansa OCThey are a wee bit different but the principle is the same.-----------------------------I use the same approach in naming the aircraft file. It will vary depending on whether I plan on using multiple or separate liveries. The first example (iFDG) is kept as a single folder for each plane and is titled:"iFDG Airbus A319-111 CFM China Eastern Airlines"Whereas the Kittyhawk series hosts multiple liveries and looks this way:"Kittyhawk Boeing 737-700 (Set 2)"Again, whatever works for you. The key is organizing the planes(and scenery for that matter) in a way you can quickly find them.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember whatifdgsupport.jpg

Great....I am glad I asked this question. Again, you have all helped me with a problem that I didn't think could be solved. I love re-naming the config files and now I can do that "just after" I download a plane...instead of waiting and trying to find it later. Thanks again.

Glad to be of a bit of help.Another procedure I use to keep from "messing up" current planes, is to install every new bird in a temporary "processing" folder and do all of my fiddling there(renaming, switching panels, gauges, and or sound sets). Once I'm happy, I move it into the FS200Xaircraft folder. Then I fly it about to make sure everything is okay before deleting the D/L file.BTW, some folks elect to keep the original D/L zip files, but I have over 3,100 folders(kept off-line in FS-AOM) so have no need of them.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember whatifdgsupport.jpg

Racartron has definately provided some good tips. If you keep adding aircraft to the sim you will start noticing your program taking longer and longer to load. When you reach that point you might want to consider a add-on manager to move aircraft easily from online to an offline "hangar". Several makes out there - payware and freeware.
