failure generators

Featured Replies

just wondering if anyone is using any "failure generator" type programs and if so how do you like it? I'd like to try one to really get more realistic. after thinking about it, it seems VERY unrealistic to fly without something along those lines. i know the failures work for the default aircraft but not for addons that's why i'm asking. thanks, william

I use FS Reliability Factor. It is payware and cost $7 US. Unfortunatly there was just a thread about how the website went offline. Hopefully a new site is posted soon. Failures make things much more realistic. Before any kind of failure system, I would find myself leaving the computer with the autopilot flying the plane. Why? Because what could happen? Nothing. So I set up a small chance of a failure, and things are much more interesting. I now need to know the proper emergency procedures when something goes wrong. I also do a lot more work flight planning with alternate airports, and it makes over water flights a little more dangerous. I've also had a partial panel failure. Try landing a twin prop with no vertical speed and no airspeed indicator! One of my most exciting moments in flightsim. That happened with the FSD Seneca. Fortunately I had tons of hours in that plane, so I was very familiar with it. I had to guess my airspeed, and make sure I didn't stall. Failures do work in 3rd party planes for the most part. I can't say whether the complex addons are perfect, but for example I had a fuel leak in the PMDG 737. I was forced to correctly change the fuel feed to the engines to prevent shutdown. Like I said, unfortunatly the website is down. There is a thread on it here: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=242834&page=2Hopefully it comes back, because I highly recommend it. I'm not aware of any alternatives.

hey kerosine, thanks very much. when you said failures do work for most addon aircraft, did you mean the failures will work with the default failure generator or with a seperate failure program? you are also very correct in that it would make flying much more realistic. without it there's no reason to watch the instruments at all, for the most part except maybe the nav instruments. well maybe a few others too. thanks again, william
