April 26, 201412 yr Hello AVSIM! *Do keep in mind while reading this post that I have researched and researched for hours added up, and after stretching my boundaries and coming to multiple dead-ends, I could NOT seem to fix what I was trying to fix.* So... here we go. I'm sure all of you have heard of VATSIM, and judging by the numbers, I could see it is a server I DEFINITELY want to be a part of. But, I experienced something I know others have had before... issues started to show themselves above the horizon. (figure of speech ^_^) Here are my primary problems/questions that I am coming here with. Actually, as a matter of fact, I'm kind of asking you what the problem is that I'm having. Alright... how to I start. Bear with me. My first issue involved a .ocx file, but was later fixed. Onward. Also keep in mind that I have reinstalled the program twice (as best as I have researched) properly, guided by Google and YouTube So, after going into free-flight at Gate 67 at KEWR, and after accessing the control panel>set>basic, I entered my flight number/callsign then my name. Here's my first question(s): What is the Homebase that is asked for? If entered incorrectly, does it influence the connection to VATSIM? **Continue reading** I proceeded to the Network tab, then went to the VATSIM tab. I entered my User ID and VATSIM Password... here's my next question(s): Does the "Net Specific Callsign" have to be entered? If not entered [correctly] will it influence the connection? After checking Apollo III for the connections, I entered the one for USA-E (while of course being in New Jersey). Okay. Now here, when I click the "Find Servers" button... nothing really happens. It just says at the bottom left: "Connection Pending." Does anybody have any suggestions towards why I can't connect? I know my ID and Password are correct, but I don't know what "Homebase" or what "Net Specific Callsign" refer to. What is stopping connection? ***IMPORTANT*** My firewall is NOT blocking any modules... they are all enabled for access - as far as I can see. I know I put in the right connection number, as well. (97.107.135.245) Please let me know of any ideas, and specifically let me know if I did something wrong. If you need more information because I wasn't specific enough, please reply that. Thanks. Joe
April 27, 201412 yr Author Never mind. Nobody even took a look at this post, anyway <_<. But still, problems have been solved! Just make sure none of the modules had "Run as Admin," then I ran FSX as ADMIN (not required), while making sure my Firewall and antivirus (in particular) weren't blocking connections. Also, make sure for the CHAT that you change compatibility to run as ADMIN on Windows XP SP2, then run FSX as admin. Good to go. Thanks to all that didn't get the chance to help! Joe.
