Eaglesfot CJ1+ FMS and Autopilot NAV Coupling?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I posted over at the Eaglesoft forums concerning not being able to have the CJ1+ v2.0 track an FMS flight plan with the FMS set as the NAV mode. Here is part of what I posted:

Yes, the plane tracks a VOR just fine when NAV is pressed on the engaged AP and the Preset is on VOR-->green needle...I've also used that

(w/FSX ATC squawking at me to "turn blah blah blah"). I've tried selecting FMS with the Preset-->magenta needle, and pressing NAV on the engaged AP, but it still won't track the FMS/GPS track for me.... :?

I did a test flight from KLAX to KPHX, loading the flight plan of KLAX HOLTZ9.TRM BLH.GEELA6 KPHX into the FMS manually, step by step. After takeoff on RW25L I engaged AP & YD, VS, ALT, and NAV. The navigation mode was set to FMS, magenta line, but the plane did not track the turns in the HOLTZ9 SID....I had to steer manually to follow the route. Once I was on a heading of 078 flying towards TRM, I switched the NAV mode to VOR (had TRM VOR freq dialed in NAV rads), and the plane tracked the green line perfectly, as it had with previous flights tracking VORs.

Does this plane automatically follow the FMS course when it is the mode of navigation? I've read that the real plane can be flown from after takeoff until final approach under FMS control, both VNAV and LNAV.

If anyone has an answer to this problem, please reply! If it can follow the FMS flight plan automatically, how is it done?!

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Folks,

I have discovered a work around for this problem, using GPS1 as the NAV source. Using GPS1 allows the plane to track the GPS course with AP active and NAV mode selected. Here are the steps:

1. Pre-load an FSX flight plan into the GPS while configuring the flight. (As mentioned, I prefer to use SimLauncher 9.3 over FSX's default start up screen, so I load the flight plan through that)
2. When into the powered up cockpit, turn on the FMS
3. Accept the coordinates (if correct, which they should be. A quick <Shift><Z> will show them)
4. Press the RLSK for the X-FILL prompt --> loads the flight plan into the FMS
5. Press the NAV/BRG button on the DCP --> Allows selection of VOR needles
6. Press the Selection Button on the RIGHT bezel of the PFD that displays FMS1 --> This changes the selection to GPS1 as the NAV Source
7. Press the NAV/BRG button on the DCP again, if you wish, to return to the previous screen button selections
8. After takeoff, engage AP, YD, ALT, VS, and NAV - the plane will then track the GPS1 Flight Plan

This may just be a work around, but it DOES work to get the plane to track the flight plan automatically.

(Incidentally, this plane works well in P3D v2.2 icon_e_biggrin.gif I'm LOVING it now!)

Off to start learning the Citation X icon_mrgreen.gif hope this helps anyone else who may be having the problem I was having!
