A tip for Ultimade Traffic and SP2 users

I have posted this in the SP2 form, but as that one will be probably shut down I will also post it here. Maybe the following is allready common knowledge, but anyway:When you have SP2 installed and cannot open the UT interface any more, i. e. you click on the ultimatetraffic.exe and nothing happens, then the reason for this is probably, that you have DEP (Data Execution Prevention) switched on for ALL programms and services. You can change this in CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> ADVANCED TAB -> PERFORMANCE SETTINGS -> DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION TAB. Make sure that "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" is checked or if you have cheked the other option, insert FS9, UT.exe and all other programmes/application you do not want to be effected by DEP, as programmes which shoud be excepted.A nice side effect: the FS9 performance will usually increase. I have a brand new Dell 8400 PC with SP2 installed on it from the factory ( I never could get it to run on my last PC, and uninstalled SP2.) Almost immediately , on my brand new PC, I started getting shutdowns of Windows explorer caused by DEP which is part of SP2. It would get to the point where I would open Windows explorer, and immediately it would be closed by DEP. The only way I could run Explorer, would be to go to the DEP menu and disable it for explorer. I noticed when I did that, that FS9 seemed to run smoother. So I disabled it for UT and FS9 also. Much better performance from FS9 now.Dell is going to install a new harddrive and operating system in my 2 week old PC, and hopefully that will solve the problem with the Explorer program shutting down ( frankly , I have my doubts). Even if it does solve the problem, I am going to try and turn DEP off for FS9 and UT and see if it runs smoother with the new harddrive.

Update on MY SP2 progress. I read on several threads and posts on PC web sites that other people were having the exact same problem with SP2's Data Execution Protection which, gives you a message that it is closing the program you are in to protect your computer ( LOL) . Somebody even took a screenshot of it closing "Windows" down. This was noted on more than one brand of Computer. In several discussions with Delltech support yesterday, I decided to disable DEP for everything by making a small change in my boot.cfg file that is spelled out on the Microsoft Web site. This keeps DEP from turning on at all. End result, FS9 runs as smooth as silk, not one stutter, jerk, or hesitation as well as no programs closing down.I am going to leave my Firewall and virus protection up to Norton, which has done an excellent job for me for years and years.
