I have a weird problem with FS9!

Featured Replies

Hi guysThe weird problem that I have is as follows: After closing down FS9 and going back to the desktop , I find FS9.exe still running as a process in the taskmanager. If I shut it down manually in the taskmanager, everything is OK , if I don't, the next time I start FS, it creates another instance of FS9.exe in the taskmanager! I discovered it by chance one day during a beta-test session where I had to start and stop FS frequently, and looking in the taskmanager, I found that FS9.exe was running 9 times altogether! Now I know that this happens, I shut it down manually every time, but it would still interest me what could be causing this. I've tried letting FS build a new cfg., and checked everything I can think of, no joy. Ideas, anyone?BestGrahame (EDHL)

I'll throw in my 2 cents worth: Sounds like a memory/pagefile problem. Are you using the system managed size for your pagefile or did you set your own size? Anyway, doing a search for "application shutdown", "software shutdown"; "task manager", I see a lot of discussions concerning memory allocation/pagefiles but no particular scenario/solution to your situation. Therefore that's where I suspect your problem lies... in your virtual memory. I'd do a defrag of your hard drive(s) too. If this doesn't solve your problem, you might consider posting this problem in the Microsoft Support Forum to see if the experts have a solution. Hope this helps.Jim

Thanks for the thought. I have always left my memory management on default, until now I've never had any trouble in this area. In the mean time, after a lot of thought,I'm beginning to suspect the Starforce drivers that came with GTR, which I installed just after christmas. I'm sure it isn't a fragmentation problem, I have Perfect Disk, and use it regularly, but it could've been a good idea otherwise.BestGrahame (EDHL)
