Crystal airport KMIC runway 32L lights?

Featured Replies

Just did a short night flight around Crystal airport and atc cleared me to take-off and land on 32L - a runway not equipped with any lighting! - just looked at airnav.com and it has no lighting in the real world, but atc still had it active at night in FS2004..:-lol

The AFCAD view at night shows 32R and 6/24 lighted. Perhaps ATC does nor pay attention to this.

I can't remember, but amazed to see someone else who uses Crystal ;-) I learned to fly there in the real world! Did one night flight there from St. Cloud, but was so long ago and 32L was 31L then, so don't remember the landing runway ;-)

Back in the '70s KMIC was one of the highest traffic density airports for private and corporate GA. Its location is such that you can still depart below the KMSP class B mushroom. There are a few choppers based there and its close proximity to Minneapolis urban areas made it convenient. It is still a favorite for flying clubs and used still for corporate storage. It is out of the way of KMSP approaches. KFCM (Flying Cloud Municipal) to the WSW of KMSP is popular also but in close proximity to it.I flew out of KANE (Anoka County) about 50 miles north of KMSP. Currently they only have VOR/GPS approaches from the north mostly. They are have budgeted an ILS for RWY 9/27 and are extending it. They are densely populated with GA aircraft and are now going for the corporate $$$ apparently. They do not offer approaches from the south I expect due to dense southern traffic from KMSP and obstacles, possibly noise considerations for the more densely populated areas south of it.
