May 28, 201412 yr Hi, I would like to test the beta release and have read several posts that say I should backup my existing 10.25 install. My question is it simply just copying the entire directory "X-Pane" to a different location and then install the beta? What is the best method to back up the current install prior to testing the beta? Thanks in advance Mark Zanzig
May 28, 201412 yr My question is it simply just copying the entire directory "X-Pane" to a different location and then install the beta? Essentially, yes! Take your "production" X-Plane 10.25 folder and copy it to a new location... In my case I took: "d:\X-Plane" ...and copied it to.... "d:\X-Plane Beta" Then, run the version you have installed in the "Beta" folder as you normally would, then exit. (This somehow 'registers' the instance of the simulator so that the installer in the next step will know it's there) Finally, run the X-Plane installer. When you opt to update X-Plane, it will ask you which directory you'd like to update! Select the proper one (*and make sure the option to use beta's is turned on), and voila! You now have 10.25 in its original home, ready to rock and roll as if nothing touched it, and 10.30b1 in its own space, ready to be torn apart without interfering with your daily work.
