July 30, 201411 yr A lot of people have found with the PMDG 777 they are reaching the VAS limit. This is not a problem of the PMDG 777, it is because it is the PMDG 777. It has high quality textures and a fully functioning cockpit, it will use a lot of memory. On it's own you won't have a problem, the problem is that on it's own it looks out of place in a 2006 piece of software. We want the PMDG 777 in a 2014 piece of software and we get this with add-ons. Now everybody knows about how to get round this and if you don't then there are a number of post about it on AVSIM, just do a search, but what if you have a number of aircraft that don't cause problems, you don't want to have low quality ground textures for them. I decided that I wanted to have different FSX.cfg files for different aircraft, I wanted different scenery files to load for different aircraft but I didn't want to have to keep changing files. A member of AVSIM from NZ called Leo pointed me towards a program called SIMstarter and I have to say it is the best thing I have done. I am able to control all my config settings, including LOD size, for which ever profile I make up, set up separate scenery files for UK only, European flights or Transatlantic flights, I can turn off things like Orbx objectflow for flights with the PMDG 777 because I can't land in any of these airports. You can even set it to load different default flights, so if you want to start your 777 at a gate in a big airport, but don't want to start a Cessna there, you can set it in your profile. So for those of you wanting to set up for the PMDG 777 but still wanting the extras for other aircraft, look for SIMstarter because it is free.
