Can anyone help (removing regions)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As I mainly do airliner flying, I am finding FTX Global / Vector / LC more than meets my needs for wide area scenery, and in some areas I even prefer it to the specific Orbx region for that area.

With this in mind, I am looking to (safely) uninstall 3 region packs from my FSX intallation;  but I'm concerned about screwing up my FTX Global installation in the process.

The 3 regions I would like to safely remove are;-

- Orbx EU ENG

- Orbx EU SCO

- Orbx EU WLS

My Orbc directory, within the FSX root directory looks like this ;-

within the "FTX_EU" folder above, the directory looks like this :-

Would I just delete all of the ENG, SCO and WLS folders above, to remove thee regions?

Do I need to delete the relevent Orbx Airports with each of these regions, or if I leave them, will they still work with just FTX Global installed?

Thanks in advance for any help, and for your patience.

If in doubt take them all out and do a clean re install, that way you get it the way you like it. I generally VFR through the UK and Netherlands. I use the ORBX England and a lot of local addons but for the Netherlands I use the NL2000 collection and that is one heck of a great collection of scenery, and I would say thats better than the orbx vector for Europe (if you fly in Europe of course).

I try to make scenery as easy to remove and just as easy to reinstall whenever I need to. I keep my scenery on a separate drive and share the files with FSX and P3D.

Thanks.   I've used NL2000 in the past, when flying low and slow, but with airliner flying I don't really value photoscenery, and prefer the simpler approach of having half-decent ground textures and better coastlines etc, which my FTX Global / Vector / LC combo gives.

I discovered how to do the clean removal, which was basically to delete the FTX_EU folder from the first screenshot above, and then to go in to the "Orbx / Scripts / FTXCentral / Regions" sub-directory and remove the "europe.rgn" file.  (This removes the region from the options in the FTX Central application.

One other point - I removed the individual folders for Orbx's Southampton and Cardiff Airports from the "FTX_EU" folder before I deleted it.    I then moved these in to the FSX / Addon Scenery folder, and added them to the Scenery Library in the normal way.

This has resulted in me being able to use both of these airports, even though I no longer have the regions that they're part of, installed.
