A way to record a flight path live action, then replay it with autopilot for video recording/gps later?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this may be common knowledge to some, but the answer doesn't seem obvious..

Running P3d v2.3 with win 8.1 x64 U1 and nvidia 780ti (shadowplay recording)..

I want to do one of two things (or both with this goal).. I realize that simdirector exists to perhaps make flight paths ahead of time, but it seems a little daunting for quick use ( ?).. i'm assuming with simdirector i could script out a flight path then turn on autopilot and record the flight either via shadowplay or dxtory or worst case fraps (after downsizing the resolution from 5760x1080 to 1920x1080)..

The basic goal is to acomplish two things here.. 1) be able to "define" a flight path, either by real time flying the route (ideally) or by scripting it out with something like simdirector.. then.. 2) "replay" that flight path possibly with different addons to then record to file a video for later comparing how the two look next to each other, while maintaining the exact same flight path etc..

So the goal is not simply record a flight path that is done in real time.. i realize i can easily do that with shadowplay or dxtory (little fps hit), but shadowplay does require me to change the res. from 5760 to 1920 for it to even record, which is where it needs to be anyway for youtube videos.

My question is, what are most people doing to record flights where you might later want to compare or "replay" the "path" of the flight exactly?

I'm assuming the first method of simdirector has it setup way points then upload that flight plan to the gps on a given plane and turn on autopilot and let it fly the route (ala fsmark07 style)..

With FSX, i believe FSRecorder would let you fly the route while recording, then replay it later..

Perhaps the built in recorder in P3D lets you replay (and change scenery addons to show the differences anyway, so this would almost be irrelevant if so, but i doubt it).

Thanks in advance for any input out there..

Thus far it appears that the built in Flight Recorder in P3D will let you save a flight, change camera angles then later "play" it back.. so if in one example saved video you did a loop that had FTX scenery, then in another you switch on Photoreal.. you get the same flight path with different scenery each time and can "record" that with shadowplay (after downrezing to 1080p first)..

Still seeking an easy way to "map out" way points and load into an aircrafts gps and have that route be flown in the sim, aside from the recorder tool, though for now that may work ok.
