Mesh for Palau (Micronesia) - FSGLOBAL2005 or other?

Featured Replies

Hi. Longtime reader, went away from flightsim for at least a year, now back with new login. So I guess this is my first post :)I'm not really a "Survivor" addict, but I do admit to enjoying the current series' scenery on Palau in Micronesia. I'd like to do a little VFR flightsim around Palau, the Yap Islands, Guam, etc., but the default FS2002 scenery is, well, uninspiring. I have a lot of FSGenesis freeware mesh for the U.S. but not much for the rest of the world.Quite a bit of Survivor-Palau depicts the astounding "Rock Islands":http://www.divetrip.com/photos/palauisl.jpgI'm considering FS GLOBAL 2005 to improve the default scenery but was wondering if any current owners of FS GLOBAL 2005 would be inspired by the real-world image above to take a screenshot of the same area in FS for me. Or if there are other meshes available, a suggestions and/or screenshot would be helpful. Here are my screenshots of the approximate Rock Islands location with the default FS2002 scenery:http://www.pbase.com/pricklypear/image/42010639/medium.jpgFullsized here: http://www.pbase.com/pricklypear/image/42010639/originalhttp://www.pbase.com/pricklypear/image/42010637/medium.jpgFullsized here: http://www.pbase.com/pricklypear/image/42010637/originalThe location for these screenshots is (N 7 10 E 134 30) with headings 335 and 265 and a nose-down attitude. For anyone else really interested in this area, here is another link that identifies the precise location of the Rock Islands (and the "70 islands" area that I think is shown in the first image in this post).http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshells/paci...palau/palau.htmThanks in advance to anyone willing to take some screenshots with enhanced mesh!

Hello Zapped,The Palau and Guam islands are already pretty high resolution mesh (LOD09). I see no improvement with my srtm 3 arcsec LOD09 mesh. You may want to get a copy of my report listing the default mesh coverage and resolutions: www.fs-traveler.com/cgi-bin/fs2004-default_mesh.zipYap is improved with srtm-based mesh. Here are "before" and "after" images: www.fs-traveler.com/downloads/yap-jpegs.zipYou're welcome to download and experiment with my mesh for the Yap area (~4MB): www.fs-traveler.com/downloads/yap-srtm09.zipRegards,Steve

What you can try for FSGLOBAL, is ask them directly on their website fsglobal2005.com/As it's a bit of an exotic place, my guess they'll be happy to screenshot it for ya.

Thanks for the replies. Steve, appreciate the pointer to your BGL analysis. You're probably trying to "tread lightly" since you also sell terrain mesh commercially, but let allow me to ask a direct question. I didn't see a product like fsglobal2005 at your site - full world coverage at 76m in one package, at a reasonable price (~ US$50). Did I miss it somewhere?
