ATR 72-500 Approaches

Featured Replies

Yep Me Again I have figured out how to navigate off of the ole ATR to get to destination could anyone give me a briefing on how to or what i need to do to almost set her on the runway with the autopilot...Main reasoning behind this is IFR Conditions. ThanksP.S. I do know how to get to my destination guess it's approach time

Well, you can't do a full autoland in the ATR, is not rated for it, but you can fly it down to 200ft using the AP in APP mode, then disconnect the AP at 200ft and hand land it, if you can't see the runway at 200ft its time for a GA and maybe divert to your alternate airport.Again, this is all explained in the manual and the supplied tutorials, bet you hate hearing that statement ;)Dan.

Yeah... That manual is a heck of a manual...Cool beans... Hey Dan Thanks again boss... I can not believe the detail of this plane it is remarkable. Wipers I have not ran into Ice on the wings yet but sure I will.Oh do you know if the windows fog up or ice over and you have to use the windows defroster. Take Care, Josh

ATR simulates LNAV, not VNAV so vnav is PIC controlled. So as long as you know how, when and where to switch out of RNAV mode you should be set, although you can also fly STARs using RNAV, but controlling vnav using the advisory on the FMC.Really, I would spend some more time with the manual and especially the tutorials, there are just too many facets to this aircrft to be able to explain in a forum.Allcott

Hello Allcot, Ok thanks for the info Sir...I am so addicted to this stuff it's not funny (LOL)..The realism and detail is just amazing... Especially some of the details...I have a high end system and now I am finally seeing it's potential..I just can't wait what kinda level of things we will get too when programs go to 64 bit coding...It is going to be another evolution... Take Care,

If you set an altitude for a given waypoint, the VNAV page of the FMC will tell you what vertical speed you need to achive that altitude. It will also tell you when you need to start descending. So you just read the VS from the VNAV page, and set that VS in your autopilot. The autopilot will control the vertical speed using pitch (not thrust!). It's up to you as the PIC to set the thrust to control the speed of the aircraft, which is quite easy to do as the ATR is not overly sensitve to changes in thrust the way some FS aircraft are.
