Runtime error 5
I sent a log file to JD, and it turned out that the problem was I was missing a bunch of files from the winwood folder. Reinstalling fixed it. I think I must have screwed up when I installed Meatwater's voice set. I didn't recognize the problem because everything was working fine for some time until I tried flying in a new location, and then the missing files bit me.

Runtime error 5
I've been getting runtime errors during my flights, usually about 15 minutes into the flight, sometimes earlier. I'm using fs2004 and active sky and the latest RC on Windows 7 64 bit. All are run in admin mode. Any suggestions about how to trouble shoot this would be most welcome.

Pacific North West from ORBX is out !
For those asking what this FTX PNW does for you, first off, it does the job of three products, UTX, GEX and add on mesh (eg, fsgenesis). I own all three, but I still bought PNW. Why? Because it does a better job at all three. The ground textures have a continuity to them that you have to see to appreciate. For example, the roads in the ground textures look natural and real (I'm not talking about the FS grey-line roads, I'm talking about textures). The mesh is more detailed and accurate than any other I've seen. I live on Vancouver Island. The mountains and the hills and every little bump really look right. There's a lot of logging here on the Island and in the PNW. I believe Orbyx created seven different clear cut textures for different stages of regrowth, and they look right. Pristine forest everywhere does not look like what I see out side my door, the mountains in FTX PNW do. Another thing that was done for this addon is over 400 airports got a work over. There are interesting buildings and ground textures at every airport. The land class placement is very accurately placed. What that means is that where there are fields in the real world, there are fields in the scenery. And buildings, and logging and even gravel pits. GEX provides replacement textures, but does nothing for landclass placement. I can't really explain every little thing I like about it. Yes, you can create a similar effect with UTX and GEX, but believe me, the ftx scenery is much more immersive and real looking.

Q6600 VS E6850
Flyer Ken replied to a post in a topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcYou might want to read this blog post by Phil Taylor before making your decision:http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007...ntel-quote.aspxI suspect that faster cpu speeds will contribute to higher fps, but more cores will lead to smoother performance (ie, fewer stutters).

How to make buildings solid?
There's nothing you can do about that. The reason some buildings cause crashes and not others is that the crash detection has to be enabled in the building model. As a scenery designer, I always turn crash detection off. The reason I do that is in FS9, if you are in external veiw, and pan the view over a building or object that has crash detection enable, you will experience a crash. That happens even when your plane is parked and shut down. That's very annoying when you are looking around an airport or whatever, so I disable it in my sceneries.

Outstanding freeware Ships!
Thanks for the tip Michael, those look awesome. Imagine what sailing will be like with the new water effects in FSX!

To Mike T
Hi Mike, I don't generally comment on reviews, but I thought that your review of ActiveSky was exceptionally well written, and the introduction did a great job of putting the product into context. Congrats on a job well done, I look forward to reading more reviews by you.

Questions for Aerosoft Beaver Owners
The external models are very nice, the flight models and sounds are pretty good, the 2d panels are ok, but the VC is very disappointing. The VC background graphics are not sharp, and neither are the gauges. If you can live with that, go for it. Otherwise, look to Carenado's Cessna 206 on floats for a much nicer interior experience.

No "DVD check" please!
I agree with you David, it would be nice to get rid of the CD check, but I'm not sure about doing the activation thing. The thing is, I don't thing the CD check does much to stop piracy anyway, since there are No CD cracks available. I think it does more to annoy the honest people than anything else.

Is it BEV or not?
Clashing coastlines, but not BEV... BEV doesn't do coastlines. BEV does textures. I must say, I was a bit surpised to see a problem like that in screenshots in a review.

ActiveSky v6 and ActiveSky Graphics released
Thanks Jim. I'm just going to wait for a couple of days. Anticipation is half the fun. Well, not really, but I can be patient. :)

Vancouver+ Vol1 is out
Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't actually rain all the time here on the Wet Coast. That's a just a story we tell Easterners so they won't all move here. :)

Third Vancouver+ Movie
Nice work Jeff, on all of them. I didn't mind the Enya in the first one either, but I guess I'm not very hip. :)

CYVR - STARS and descent question
The B in 21000B and 16000B means below, so you can cross those waypoints at a lower altitude. But you do need to cross BASRA at 10,000, that's a requirement of the STAR. That should give you plenty of time to descend to 3000 feet for vectors to the ILS. If you find you don't have long enough, try slowing down a bit more, 230 kts is a max, not a minimum. I'm not sure about flying the LDS (or anyother 767) but I don't think it's unusual to use flaps and speed brakes as required to maintain your speed as you descend. I'm not sure how helpful this is, but if you want a more qualified answer, try asking on the CZVR vatsim site forum, http://www.czvr.ca/ . I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

Another Beta Tester's comments
I'll second that. The ATR is my favorite plane in FS, and it sounds like FS2Crew is really going to take it to a new level!

FsScene or Birds Eye View?
I don't have FSScene, but I do have BEV and I'm very happy with it. As for the .NET stuff, that's a tempest in a teapot as far as I'm concerned. They're just runtime libraries for the .NET frame work. Visual C++ and Visual Basic have runtimes too. But in anycase, the configurator is being rewritten without .NET in reponse to the fuss.

BEV IS RELEASED
I wouldn't be surprised to see .NET used in FS10 in some way. The fact is it's just another set of run time libraries supporting a programming language, not some kind of conspiracy.

Upgrade to 2004?
Glenn, your computer is more than adequate for FS2004. I have a P4 2.4 GHz machine with 512 MB of RAM and a Radeon 9700TX video card (that's a non-pro version). I have my fps locked at 20, and it rarely dips. I use 6x antialiasing and 4x anisotropic filtering so I get good image quality. I have my scenery quality sliders maxed, but I use a low setting for traffic, which really helps keep the frame rates up. I also use a frame-rate friendly cloud set.The main thing that I've noticed about FS2004 is that it displays autogen much more densely than FS2002. When I adjust the sliders to give FS2004 a similar density to FS2002, I get better frame rates in FS2004 than I did in FS2002. Visually, FS2004 is much better than FS2002, especially once you add in some good freeware water and cloud textures. In otherwords, don't wait, just do it!

ATI Shimmer
Me too. I upgraded to 5.9, but I still get a black screen with ForceMSAAMode greater than 0.

Was ACOF a failure??
I don't think that ACOF was a failure as a theme, but I do think that it was a special occaision, and therefore probably a one off. I'd be a bit surprised to see another theme like it.

FS Passengers & Others...
Exactly right. Download the fully functional demo and fly your heart out (in the KSFO area).

What about FS11?
I thought it was funny... :)
