I realize this belongs in the hardware form but I feel it is such a valuable find I hope the moderators will leave it here so that most of the fellow flight simmers will be abel to read it and take advantage of this simple fix.I have tried this and it works great with no aparent negative side affects and very simple to use.ChuckShimmer in Autogen scenery. It can be totally eradicated with this new tool for ATI cards : -http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=10400&page=

WOOHOOO!!!!!!! :)Fixed my probs!!!!Humus-you da man!!!!!

Thanks for the link! Can you tell me what settings you used to get such great image quality?

I stayed with the setting that were on the file. I just dropped the two files in my main FS9 folder. Chuck

Okay I'm intrigued. I read the threads you linked but have a (dumb?) question: Where is the download itself? The link provided leads to a discussion that confused me about which version etc. Could u provide a more direct link? Maybe I just missed it. Thanks.

The DX link is here: http://www.humus.ca/Cool/DXOverride.zip . That's the file needed for FS9. Just unzip the file and put the .dll and .ini file into your main FS9 folder. If you also want the OpenGL file it's here: http://www.humus.ca/Cool/GLOverride.zip .Doug

Im pretty sure I did everything correctly and honestly see absolutely ZERO difference. Scott

midibyte,It's not just you - to my knowledge this trick is not intended for nVidia cards and even for ATi owners it's a bit hit-and-miss. It doesn't work on my machine (which is no slouch), for example:AMD Athlon 64 3800+2Gb RAMATi X850 XT PE 256MbWindows XP x64I run FS2004 in a roughly 1600x1200 window which shouldn't be a problem (AA works just fine, for example), but just for the sake of experimenting I tried full-screen mode, lower resolutions and even turned off AA to see if these would help, but no go.The trick itself is very straightforward and you should know immediately wether it works or not after firing up a flight and getting airborne:No flicker in autogen trees = worksFlickering autogen trees = doesn't workPS.:If you don't see much flickering in the autogen trees to begin with, your MIP-map setting in FS2004 is likely at "4" - push it up to "8" and you'll see the flickering.

Many thanks will give it a try.

Forgive my ignorance but...how in the world does a dll load itself in memory when starting FS?!?The dll's in the fs/modules folder are loaded by FS but how are dll's loaded by just copying them into a folder?

Good question. Also do the files go into the main FS9 folder or the folder where the fs9.cfg file resides?

After some far more testing I once again feel that this is the case of.."I want this to work, so therefore I will convince myself that it does." Kind of like how folks swear that by putting their TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS to values above "4.0...", makes a difference. ScottAMD 4000+ATI X800 PCIe

You are referring to the 'placebo effect' or the Emperor's new clothes? I can't try it cos I've got an Nvidia card but maybe there is a real difference.
