September 26, 200520 yr I think I had the same problem - some parts of water / very distant features near the horizon appeared / disappeared when I toggled the ATC window on and off (or even when the game was paused, and the "Paused" message blinked on and off).Haven't found a fix for that myself.. except for removing the DLL of course :)
September 26, 200520 yr Tere are 2 versions downloadable from ATI, the CCC means "Catalyst Control Center"; basically, the CCC version is the standard one with an overbloated so called "control center" added and thus the download size is significantly increased.I used the CCC version only once, and no more after. I guess the tuner programs available from various sites do a lot more than CCC without the overhead it has. On the other hand. CCC allows you to do a lot of things if you have 2 monitors installed!Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
September 26, 200520 yr Tried for about 2 hours to find out what settings for my 9800 Pro does what and whether the replacement file does anything.1st finding: a value greater than 6 in the ini file, and the replacement dll crashes my FS.2nd finding: the replacement file may have some effect, but I cannot see it anyway, no matter what values I put in the ini file.3rd finding: anisotropic filtering has the biggest effect for me to reduce shimmering; when set to 16x, only the trees and some buildings (especially the edges) shimmer; but 16x has a big negative impact to FPS.Conclusion: I don't use the replacement files and set the Catalyst to 4x anti-aliasing and 8x anisotropic filtering (the maximum settings I can bear without loosing too many FPS's and the maximum compromise between quality and performance; everything above gives only average improvements but has heavy hits to the FPS counts), no temporal anti-aliasing.I'll download the latest RadLinker to see whether I get significant changes setting some parameters there.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. September 26, 200520 yr My video card is only a 9600 but the difference with the dll is startling. There's a fence near my parking place and without the dll it looks about as much like a fence as my cat does. With the dll it not only looks like a fence, but you can tell that there are four straight strands above the chain links that must represent the barbed wire on top. And no shimmering in the trees. Nice piece of work.Bob Deyo
September 26, 200520 yr Commercial Member I have the same card and had no problems with loadup. At the same time, adding these files made no difference to the display either.I've never changed the drivers though, so maybe I should try that; I just don't like fiddling around with stuff that's not broken in the first place :-( Cheers Paul Golding
September 26, 200520 yr Hello! If I leave the ini like it is delivered (ForceMSAAMode = 0) I really can not say if anything changes. At least nothing seems to be worse. But as soon as I change ForceMSAAMode to greater values than 0 FS9 has some problems. In the create flight dialog for example the part of the window where the selected aircraft model is rotating everything stays black. If I start the sim the whole screen (I use always fullscreen mode) stays completely black. Only the hourglass mousepointer is flickering around. If I press the menues get visible but the rest stays black...Any idea what this could be?I forget to mention my graphic card is the ATI 9800XT, driver Catalyst 5.8Mick!

It's beyond me.JR

September 27, 200520 yr >Mick update to the NEW catalyst 5.9 drivers :)Did it just after writing the mail before, but still screen stays black when 'ForceMSAAMode' greater than 0 :-(Mick!

September 27, 200520 yr Same here [email protected] that with this dll sitting in your folder and what type of graphics card do you have? Eric
September 28, 200520 yr Me too. I upgraded to 5.9, but I still get a black screen with ForceMSAAMode greater than 0.
October 1, 200520 yr I've been using an ATI 9800 Pro for a year now and while the colours and performance is much improved over my old Nvidia, the shimmering and jaggies on buildings and planes at a distance, has always been infuriating.I stumbled upon this thread today and decided to give it a go. I dropped the two files into FS9 and.............. they worked a treat!!I'm making some full size screenshots for a future presentation for Cloud nine's Schipol and I was wondering how I could possibly get away with such an awful look to the horzontal and vertical lines. This has done the trick. Everything now looks great. Many, many thanks for a HU leading to an amazing fix.
