September 24, 200520 yr Its real confusing as to why some completely get rid of the shimmers and others of us don't. Computers are a real pain in the ####!
September 24, 200520 yr Does not even let fs loadHave a ATI 9600PROPut the 2 file in :Microsoft GamesFlight Simulator 9It then says i have the wrong version of direct X, and asks me to install DX9 from the flightsim CD. But I DO have directX 9. Anyone else have this problem?hmmm Brent Lewis
September 24, 200520 yr HI,small but noticable improvements here to! A less more detail and a brighter view in the mid-distance. Only a strange reflection in the water! When using my ATC window the strange reflection disappears. Closing the ATC window it returns... Any ideas to fix this?HArdware: ATI x800pro/ati 5.8 drivers; intel 3.2 gig; 2 gig sdram; ASUS p4p800deluxe motherboardHerman Leusman(EHGG)

I tried changing the water effects slider from low to none and it got worse! I then changed to maximum water effects and it worked perfectly (nice appearance, but hard on frame rates!) I then went back to "low" water effects and it still worked without any of the strange reflections. I'm not sure what any of this means, but it is definitely connected in some way to water effects.I was using the realair 172 and also the Dreamfleet Baron, default scenery in the Seattle area. I am using the 4.11 drivers on the ATI 9800 Pro.Dale Dale
September 25, 200520 yr Hi Bob,definitively less shimmers almost nothing!!!Juan Carlos>>Had the same problem... the cure.... install last cats 5.9>>and CCC>>>>>>Regards>>>>Juan Carlos>>>>>>>Juan,>>Did the cat 5.9's result in a good reduction in shimmers or>just allowed you to install without the error message? September 25, 200520 yr To clarify on my earlier post about "It not working for me" - I *do* see that trees and other textures with alpha (for example the registration on the side of a default Cessna) ARE smoothed out on the edges (which is nice), but I still get flickering in autogen trees when flying above forests.I'm starting to think it's because of my LCD display (which I originally blamed for the flickering a year or so ago, before I found out that even CRT users suffer from it).One thing I did notice while trying out various settings was that the DLL does absolutely nothing if AA is turned off in my 3D display settings (Windows control panel). If someone here is NOT seeing smoothed-out tree edges (zoom in real close and you'll see if they're sharp or soft) and you're not using AA, try it and see if it helps.
September 25, 200520 yr Hello Dale, for me the "high" water effects don't make any difference. I noticed that the strange watereffects only appear when I use the 2D panel (which I mostly use) and only looking forward. The improvements make me curious to manage this "problem". ..don't know how, don't know when..Herman
September 25, 200520 yr I'm still confused as to why some people can get FS9 to load up with the dll after altering the config file and others can't. Very strange.
September 25, 200520 yr Because it is in the same folder with FS9.exe (like you can do with GDI+ and Win 98).In fact the dll is the direct draw dll and you should have another one in system32. What I can't understand is how a program that works with DX8 (so it should be linked with d3d8.lib and call d3d8.dll like FS, benefits from a changed d3d9.dll). There are a lot of functions in d3d8 that differs from d3d9 even if you are only using the already available d3d8 functions.Jos
September 25, 200520 yr I got the DX version error. This was solved by installing 5.9 with CCC. Now FS9 boots, and there is no shimmer!
September 25, 200520 yr I have the same strange watereffects problem on 2D panels. If someone knows how to fix that, please tell.Regards,
September 26, 200520 yr It appears to have something to do with the gauges in cockpit 2D mode. If you cycle the panel off and on with the W key the water texture return whenever the gauges are not visible.JR
