Majestic Q400 Makes Me Feel Stupid
You can tune the radios on the sets located on the pedestal or you can use the "Tune" section of the FMS. I use Radar Contact for air traffic control and I have it set to handle the comm frequency changes for me, but I do the NAV and ATC frequency changes. I agree this aircraft is a handfull. I simplify things by using a standard fuel load of 8200 pounds, 38 passengers, and a reserve of 500 pounds. This puts me at a 1.5 hour flight with an approach speed of about 117 KIAS. I usually use 15 degrees of flaps and keep the power on all the way to touchdown.
-
3 Point Landing
Interesting, because the config file shows stall speed as 60 KTAS for full flaps, and 67 for flaps up.
-
3 Point Landing
I like this aircraft, but I have noticed in replays of my landings, I'm touching down on all 3 gear at the same time. This happens even at 1/2 flap settings and just above stall speed. Is this normal for the Aztec? It could just be me, but the landings are usually very smooth and no bounce, like you would get in a real aircraft if you tried to touch down too fast.

Realair Legacy Release
I got the upgrade for FSX. Love the GTN 750 integration, makes this a plausable cross country aircraft. I thought the upgrade should have been about $26 at the current exchange rates, but ended up costing $32. A bit steep, but it is a good aircraft.

Missing standby attitude indicator
That's it! Somehow I missed the SFDS switch (actually, I thought it was already on). Thanks, WarpD and Caribpilot.

Missing standby attitude indicator
There are a couple of clickspots at the bottom of the standby attitude indicator, but they don't seem to do anything.

Missing standby attitude indicator
Everything else seems to be there and work ok, but the standby attitude indicator is blank. I read through all the documentation, but didn't find anything. I reset the avionics switch, cycled the generators, and tried every other switch I could find.I tried re-installing, but no change. Am I missing something? Dale

ERJ-145 speed issues
ExNusquam is exactly right on the climb speeds. Remember to switch from knots to mach no on the speed control as soon as you get around mach .56. As I recall, you can also use IAS instead of FLC and adjust the speeds to the above schedule. The FMC has a neat feature in the performance pages - after you have done all the other entries, go back to Fuel and type "FUEL". It will calculate the needed fuel based on the flight plan. Caution - be sure to check the enroute weather and enter the winds, especially if there is a head wind.

Best FSX Turboprop?
I have to vote for the Real Air Duke Turbine V2. It's a great plane as it comes and you can always add the F1 GTN 750 later. The Majestic Q400 Dash 8 is a great plane, but is more like an airliner and requires a learning curve to master the systems and procedures. The Carenado C90 Kingair is nowhere near as accurate a turboprop model, but I do enjoy flying it. Great frame rates and Carenado does an outstanding job on the textures. A couple more are the Flysimware Cessna 441 and their MU2. Their visuals don't match Carenado, but they have a good model of the Garret turboprop and both planes fly well.

Recommended throttle for fsx
I have had the CH Throttle Quadrant for about 7 years, fly with it at least 5 times a week, and have had no problems. I do not use the CH software, but use FSUIPC (registered) to set the axis assignments, including reverse thrust for jets. If it broke, I would order another one immediately. Dale

I'm sorry I paid money for this!
With Bert's mods and the GTN 750 installed, I like this airplane. Flown in the normal flight envelope of a business jet, I think the flight model is very good. The autopilot has some quirks, but I have been able to get it to level at pre-selected altitudes and follow GPS courses and do a number of approaches. The electrical system is certainly not correct and the documentation leaves much to be desired, but i still enjoy flying the 850.

Baron 58 recommendations
Milviz makes a B55 Baron, which is much better than the default. Not sure if they will work with the Reality XP gages.

FEELTHERE ERJ 145 V2
I get very good fps on my system. It's complex enough you need to spend some time reading the manual, especially if you start cold and dark. Some people don't like the night lighting on the panel, and the exterior strobe lights seem to flash at too high a frequency. If you use the "ready to start" configuration, it empties the left fuel tank which causes the APU to shut off. Not a big deal, just fill the tank and restart the APU. The flight model seems to be correct and the autopilot works as it should. There's no autothrottle, just as on the real aircraft. I still fly this one quite often on short to medium flights.

Mu-2B Question
Bummer on the radar. Yes, I hear the beacon above the sound of the engines. I finally turned it off in mid flight and the sound stopped. I'll have to check my FSX sound settings, maybe I have a slider too high.
-
Mu-2B Question
Hi, Just purchased the Mu-2B, and have only done one quick flight, but I have a question - I cannot find a way to turn on the radar. I am using the GNS 530 model, the avionics switches, generator switches and the inverter switch are all on. On the video, it appears he just turns the knob on the lower left to standby and later, to on. I can't find a click spot anywhere on the radar. I know you went to a lot of effort to get the sounds right, but the rotating beacon is going to drive me crazy! I'm going to look for a way to lower the volume. Dale

Hawker.....Again
I see on the Carenado Facebook page, they have announced the start of a new project - a Citation CJ2. This might indicate some people have finished the Hawker and moved on.

Overclocking and Water cooling
tanker replied to Mike_CFII_MEL's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcUnless you are going to do extreme overclocking, there are cheaper and simpler ways to cool the processor. I use a Noctua NH-d14, which is a air cooler, and easily clock a I7 3770K to 4.5 ghz. The only downside is that it requires a lot of space inside the case. Anytime you pump liquid, there is a chance of a leak developing. Dale

Having Frame Rate issues with the Citation II ?
This may be a dumb question, but where do I find the dll.xml file? I tried a search of my whole drive without success, but I did find the cmeteo.xml file. Assuming I can find it, how do I open it and edit the dll.xml file? Thanks for any help. Dale

Rare SR-71 Photos
You can also see one at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. One of my classmates from my pilot training class (71-03) flew this aircraft. He told me he had only 17 minutes from takeoff to reach the tanker and start taking on fuel.

ASNext SP1 causes long system pauses
I had the sim pause or CTD twice after installing SP1 when flying the MJ8 with RC4 and ASN. I completely uninstalled ASN, including ASConnect, then rebooted and downloaded a fresh ASN. Ran the install and have had no problems since (3 flights of 1.5 hrs each).
-
stackhash_2264
Ok, did a complete uninstall of ASN and ASConnect, rebooted, then did a fresh download and install. Flew from KPIT to KRDU with ASN, RC4, about 1.5 hours, and there were no problems. I need to fly a few more flights before I can be completely sure, but I think this may have fixed the problem. You are correct that I am only using AS2012 for cloud textures, I never run AS2012 and ASN at the same time. Very much appreciate your help with this. At the age of 69,my computer skills are not the best, but I really enjoy flight simulation (former Air Force pilot) and I probably push the computer close to its limits in atemmpting to get as much realism as possible.
-
stackhash_2264
Thank you Firehawk44. Lots of good info here. Not sure why, but when FSX crashed, under details, it said it was stackhash_2264, excep code c0000005, badc0del. anyway, I downloaded and ran the Setupverifier, but after checking both log files, there were no errors. I was next going to uninstall/reinstall ASN, but I can only find one uninstaller for ASN. Did you mean I also had to uninstall AS2012? Also, under my Simmarket account, it only shows one install file fo ASN.
-
stackhash_2264
Thank you for your reply. I don't know what MTX is, so I probably don't have it.. The overclock was done by Digital Storm, who built my computer 2 years ago. During that time it has been very stable and has a large case with plenty of fans and a Noctura NH-214 CPU cooler and temperatures are very steady, well within the "green" zone. I suspect some type of graphics overload.I should probably try a flight with default weather, but since it takes an hour or so before the CTD happens, it is very time consuming to troubleshoot.

I'm getting this error when I fly the MJ8 with RC4 and ASN. It happens about 1 hour into the flight. Temperatures (CPU and GPU) well within limits. This began happening after I updated ASN to SP1, all settings within ASN have not changed.
