  1. This may be a dumb question, but where do I find the dll.xml file? I tried a search of my whole drive without success, but I did find the cmeteo.xml file. Assuming I can find it, how do I open it and edit the dll.xml file? Thanks for any help. Dale
  2. You can also see one at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. One of my classmates from my pilot training class (71-03) flew this aircraft. He told me he had only 17 minutes from takeoff to reach the tanker and start taking on fuel.
  3. Select "Outside View", then the overhead view. Use the + or - keys to zoom in and out. Dale
  4. I had the sim pause or CTD twice after installing SP1 when flying the MJ8 with RC4 and ASN. I completely uninstalled ASN, including ASConnect, then rebooted and downloaded a fresh ASN. Ran the install and have had no problems since (3 flights of 1.5 hrs each).
  5. Ok, did a complete uninstall of ASN and ASConnect, rebooted, then did a fresh download and install. Flew from KPIT to KRDU with ASN, RC4, about 1.5 hours, and there were no problems. I need to fly a few more flights before I can be completely sure, but I think this may have fixed the problem. You are correct that I am only using AS2012 for cloud textures, I never run AS2012 and ASN at the same time. Very much appreciate your help with this. At the age of 69,my computer skills are not the best, but I really enjoy flight simulation (former Air Force pilot) and I probably push the computer close to its limits in atemmpting to get as much realism as possible.
  6. Thank you Firehawk44. Lots of good info here. Not sure why, but when FSX crashed, under details, it said it was stackhash_2264, excep code c0000005, badc0del. anyway, I downloaded and ran the Setupverifier, but after checking both log files, there were no errors. I was next going to uninstall/reinstall ASN, but I can only find one uninstaller for ASN. Did you mean I also had to uninstall AS2012? Also, under my Simmarket account, it only shows one install file fo ASN.
  7. Thank you for your reply. I don't know what MTX is, so I probably don't have it.. The overclock was done by Digital Storm, who built my computer 2 years ago. During that time it has been very stable and has a large case with plenty of fans and a Noctura NH-214 CPU cooler and temperatures are very steady, well within the "green" zone. I suspect some type of graphics overload.I should probably try a flight with default weather, but since it takes an hour or so before the CTD happens, it is very time consuming to troubleshoot.
  8. I'm getting this error when I fly the MJ8 with RC4 and ASN. It happens about 1 hour into the flight. Temperatures (CPU and GPU) well within limits. This began happening after I updated ASN to SP1, all settings within ASN have not changed. 9. Simply select "outside view", then "top down. You can see all the taxiways and plan how to get to the runway assigned. Then, switch back to cockpit view and taxi. If you get confused, you can pull up the top view again, just like consulting an airport layout. To me, it seems more realistic than the pink line of the default. The only time it causes me any problem is at night at a complex airport, but it still works.
  10. Radar Contact (RC4) does allow you to declare emergency and choose options of returning to the departure airport or proceeding to the nearest suitable field. It will ask you questions about the number of souls on board and the nature of the emergency. It's fairly realistic and even a bit distracting as you are trying to run emergency procedures and do a safe landing.
  11. I flew KC-135As in the early 70's. I have had discussions with pilots flying the current KC-135R (Old airplane, but modern cockpit). They seem amazed at what we did with analog instruments and primitive navigation aids. Of course, we had a navigator and the current crews do not. We probably got more practice at shutting off the autopilot and hand flying. There's no doubt that modern systems provide far more precise navigation. On the other hand, when you get multiple system failures, and a loss of an engine, it's nice to have someone at the controls with actual experience rather than just simulated emergencies. I had an instructor who liked to pull 3 engines back to idle and prove the tanker could fly on just one engine (with light fuel loads). he always told us, "no matter what goes wrong, remember to fly the airplane!" Dale
  12. My freezing problems went away when I installed FSUIPC 4.9.2.7a and ASN update B5099. Dale
  13. I updated FSUIPC to 4.9.2.7a and installed the ASN update B5099. Took a flight from KAMA to KABQ, FL 200, RA Turbo Duke, with RC4 and ASN. No freezes! I'll have to try more flights, but I'm hopeful one, or both, updates may have solved my problem. Dale
  14. Not sure - I will try a flight without RC4. I did several flights with RC4 and ASN during the trial period without problems, but they were all fairly short flights. Dale
  15. Yep, it's very frustrating - the flight was going really well, easily holding 30 fps, then suddenly, with no warning, everything just stops. Everything - FSX, RC4, even the cursor. I had to use task manager to stop each program. No error messages, so I ran appcrashview and got the following: Version=1 EventType=AppHangB1 EventTime=129990107379249297 ReportType=3 Consent=1 ReportIdentifier=9c41306f-3d43-11e2-9e31-50465d6f59f1 IntegratorReportIdentifier=9c413070-3d43-11e2-9e31-50465d6f59f1 WOW64=1 Response.type=4 Sig[0].Name=Application Name Sig[0].Value=rcv4.exe Sig[1].Name=Application Version Sig[1].Value=4.3.0.3845 Sig[2].Name=Application Timestamp Sig[2].Value=45cb842d Sig[3].Name=Hang Signature Sig[3].Value=0c08 Sig[4].Name=Hang Type Sig[4].Value=0 DynamicSig[1].Name=OS Version DynamicSig[1].Value=6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 DynamicSig[2].Name=Locale ID DynamicSig[2].Value=1033 DynamicSig[22].Name=Additional Hang Signature 1 DynamicSig[22].Value=0c08d1dd43552422d4aae19b4249b7e4 DynamicSig[23].Name=Additional Hang Signature 2 DynamicSig[23].Value=43a7 DynamicSig[24].Name=Additional Hang Signature 3 DynamicSig[24].Value=43a7a9a3564ad52affdb38143918bcc7 DynamicSig[25].Name=Additional Hang Signature 4 DynamicSig[25].Value=0c08 DynamicSig[26].Name=Additional Hang Signature 5 DynamicSig[26].Value=0c08d1dd43552422d4aae19b4249b7e4 DynamicSig[27].Name=Additional Hang Signature 6 DynamicSig[27].Value=43a7 DynamicSig[28].Name=Additional Hang Signature 7 DynamicSig[28].Value=43a7a9a3564ad52affdb38143918bcc7 UI[3]=Radar Contact V4.2 is not responding UI[4]=Windows can check online for a solution. 16. I am experiencing computer freezes using ASN, RC4, and FSX. These usually occur about 30 mins into the flight. I have excluded as_rv, as_btstrap.dll and as_connect.dll from Kaspersky AV.I am using FSUIPC 4.9.2 as recommended. My Affinity mask is set to 84 (4 cores, + HT).This has happened with different aircraft. I just ran a long flight using AS2012 and RA duke V2 and had no freezes or other problems. It appears that the problem only happens when running ASN. Dale
  17. Ok, tried it this AM with the above changes, same aircraft, same altitude, similar weather. No freezes, fps stayed at a steady 30 (locked rate), so the changes seemed to work. I suspect the main culprit was my Kaspersky AV and by listing as_btsrp.dll and as_connect.dll as exclusions all is well. Dale
  18. Flew from KBHM to KJAN this AM w ASNext, RC4, and existing AS2012 textures. I got a solid lockup about 30 minutes into the flight, had to use task manager to end FSX. I think this had to do with an "ambient Change", so I have added as_btsrp.dll and as_connect.dll to my Kaspersky exclude list (already have Asnext as a trusted application). The aircraft was RA Duke V2. I already had cloud layers down to 3, the enhanced overcast unchecked, everything else default. I noticed before the lockup that frame rates had dropped to about 15 over an undercast sky. Will try again with the new settings plus reduced cloud sight distance (60/90) to see if this helps. Dale
  19. I tried an engine out landing this morning. I was able to feather the prop and hold a reasonable airspeed at 3000 ft and was able to turn into the dead engine (carefully!) and the off center thrust was easily controlled with rudder. The landing seemed realistic, the rudder had to be reduced as the power was reduced just before touchdown. My only nitpick was the manifold pressure on the dead engine showed 30 in, even after shutdown and feathering, but perhaps that is what the real aircraft does, as well. I almost passed on this upgrade version because of the price and the fact that the 1.5 version is still one of the best GA twins available. I'm glad I went ahead with it because this type of aircraft is what I enjoy the most in FSX, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants the very best in this aircraft category. Dale
  20. I must have missed something - how do you change the instrument panel to a different color? I see several optional panel textures in the files, but nothing about them in the configuration tool. Dale
  21. The Majestic Dash 8 Q400 I usually only fly 1 to 2 hours and use Radar Contact 4.3 for ATC. The Majestic Dash 8 can easily cover between 200 to 300 miles and use large or medium airports, so it's perfect for the way I like to fly. Dale
  22. When using lube on the plastic CH yoke, keep in mind that some petroleum based oils/greases can soften the plastic. I found some silicone grease designed for plastic at a local hobby shop, in the racing car accessory area. It has served quite well and my CH USB yoke has 5+ years. The lube I used is AE Team Associated, part no. 6636. I tried a CH Eclipse yoke, but sent it back because the plastic shaft was binding or "sticking", making elevator control very difficult. I think any of the CH yokes can be made to have smooth operation, but it involves sanding and polishing the plastic shaft and possibly changing to lighter springs. Of course, these modifications void the warranty. Dale
  23. I have really enjoyed the Majestic Dash 8-400 and RealAir Duke Turbo, and it got me thinking about how nice it would be to have other turboprops. How about: Saab 340B Convair 580 Fokker 50 others? Some of these have been done for FS9, but leave much to be desired in FSX. The Flight 1 ATR does work in FSX, but could use some updates. Are any of these in development? Dale
  24. I had it happen today at KPWA, runway 17L. I captured the ILS at around 15 miles (I use heading mode to establish the aircraft on the ILS course, then make sure I have a Glideslope indication and I am below the GS at the assigned altitude) then hit the APP. Got a LOC and GS indication, then after following the glide slope for a few moments, it switched to pitch hold. I turned off the AP and did the approach manually. My airspeed was APP + 10 knots, flaps 15 degrees. The scenery and airport are default FSX, I was using RC 4.3 and AS2012 (there was a 6 knot tailwind on approach, otherwise clear and no turbulence)
