Hi there. The other week my fs9 was doing nearly the same thing-although it started earlier- as I went to click 'fly now' -I was back at the desktop . It was a 'faulty'(?) file in a plane download that was causing it to crash. So if you haven't downloaded anything at all to cause this then it seems a file of yours has become corrupted.I guess you have to try different planes, then disable bits of the sim until you get it flying again.Perhaps try a basic airstrip with the Cub and try to go from there.Andy.

Thanks Andy.I tried about four different aircrafts and the same thing. Occasionbally the AVG anti virus software pops with with a "virus" altert and I most often click the "delete file". Don't know if anything nin FS9 folder got deleted. My computer has a virus/Adware software deep in WINdoes somesome too... I might as well rebuild the whole thing.Sigh!. But then I don't know how to prevent this once again.

I used to have AVG and then heard things about it here on the forums and so got rid of that and now have avast and the microsoft beta programs, both freeware, running anti-spyware and ad-aware and spy-bot looking for the other thingies which attack us.Whemever I download something, say a plane, it arrives in a zipped file and before opening it I run avast on it to check for lurgies and that then stops any thing from getting in the computer from a file-- but the problem of corrupted files is slightly different as they don't have viruses in them, but I guess they have a problem in the code which causes the sim to go back to bed and wait for it to be fixed. My guess is that if you have been warned of a virus in a file in a running program and you have deleted it, then the sim hasn't got enough info to complete the operations you want to do and so crashes. My suggestions are-1.Download Avast and the MS Spyware Beta programs2. Run them both to see whether there is any thing lurking in the box.3.If your machine is clean then either delete AVG or just put it in the background.4.It seems like you have to reinstall FS9 if you have deleted files from the sim, unless you know what they are and you could put them back- they may still be in the recycle bin?5.I don't know what else to suggest.Andy.

If you suspect that you have some nasty things on your computer then yes, the best bet is to re-install everything after a format of the drive. You want to make sure that you format it so nothing remains intact from your previous installation. It is fairly easy to prevent almost all of the bad stuff from getting on your computer by following a few easy steps. Immediately after re-installing Windows go to the Windows Update website and install all of the updates, then install your anti-virus program. Next I would download and install both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy, make sure you run the update program for each of these as well so you have the latest pattern files. With Spybot also make sure that you immunize your computer as this will help keep the nasty stuff out. Also get yourself a pop-up blocker like the Google tool bar, many things can arrive when you incorrectly close a pop-up. Finally get yourself a firewall like Zone Alarm, especially if you have a broadband connection, you can use the Windows firewall but Zone Alarm is much better at controling what is allowed to access the internet. All of the above programs are free so they will not cast you anything and will give you a good level of protection but along with that you have to use sense in your web browsing habits and do not go to places known to be a danger. Finally make sure that you run adaware and Spybot once in a while to update their programs and scan your drive for any problems. Oh, one more piece of advice, it is also a good idea every once in a while to use one of the free online virus scanners to make sure that your anti-virus program did not miss anything because they all do once in a while. Here are a couple of decent ones http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default...id=ie&venid=sym I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

Thanks Andy, Phillip for the detailed help. Appreciate it. will take advice. Thanks again.MannyPS: I a trying out the Mozilla Firefox. Its pretty good Browser... Even though I have not yet cleaned up my computer (Those adwares are still there). By the virtue of not using IE.. I have not had one pop up ads so far. I wish I had known about Firefox before. I may have prevented this trash coming in.I know.. what browser I am going to be using henceforth after I rebuild by system.:)

FireFox rules! I have never looked back since I got it. No pop-ups and a ruthless adverstisement-killer! Right-click on an ad...and its gone...for good!However...keep your IE because not ALL websites like Firefox so now and then you will have to use IE.When all is well make sure you download all the great extensions for Firefox, they give it immense use and it truly turns into a Swiss Army knife of a browser!(Extensions are tiny plug-ins that give Firefox more functions...and theres a ton of them...with another ton being created as you read these words!)Incidentally a handy extension addressing the occasional Fireox-website incompatibility problem is called "IE View". Once you have this extension in Firefox you can right-click on a website and an option appears in the context menu that says "View this page in IE".:)

Before running any kind of antivirus, antispyware program, be sure to disable the Restore feature if your version of Windows has it. Once you have successfully removed the nasties, and confirmed such with your "anti" programs' scans after a couple of reboots, don't forget to re-enable the Restore option.Nasties will be retained in the Restore files and re-appear upon the next reboot if you fail to shut down the Restore option _prior_ to the "anti" programs' removal functions. It also helps to identify the particular nasty that occupies your PC. AVG in its alert message should give you a hint of the name or type of virus/trojan if it is indeed detecting it. Armed with that info, do a search with Google using that name and chances are, you'll get links directly to anti virus sites which will have further info as well as directions for the bug's removal. Sometimes, it takes more than just an anti virus program to clean things up.

Before you delete MSFS, also check for add-on modules. Anything outside of the default add-on modules in the modules folder may be causing an issue. You can rule them out by renaming the add-on modules extensions from dll to dlb ("B" for backup). If the problem goes away, enable each in turn until you locate the culprit. Below is a list of the default modules (for the 9.1 update).
