April 27, 200521 yr I'm trying to un-install FS9 and then re-install to get a nice fresh copy, but when i went to the add/remove prgrammes, i got an error message (can't remoember what it was exactly), and then the entry disappeared from the list. I've also tried to un-install from the 1st CD (set-up screen), but that ends up hanging, so I have to CTRL + ALT + DELETE to end the prgramme. Now I can't remove it or run it :-grr I've also removed all my add-ons via the add/remove function, and that went ok.Can someone please help me out Alaister Kay
April 27, 200521 yr If nothing you have tried works then just install FS9 over your current installation.*Then* try uninstalling it.If that works then thoroughly clean up your computer - if you do a search on snapfiles.com you can find some free registry-cleaners (remember to backup current registry). Then get the free CCCleaner and run that. Then run Windows diskcleanup. After that go into safe mode and defrag your hard disk. Finally install your fresh copy of FS9 .:)
April 27, 200521 yr It won't let me install over the current one through the setup system, is there anyway to over-ride that?thanks Alaister Kay
April 27, 200521 yr ------------------------------------------------------------------------It won't let me install over the current one through the setup system, is there anyway to over-ride that?------------------------------------------------------------------------Ack! I had forgotten about that!Ok, here you go, click on this:http://tinyurl.com/cvvasPrint that out and follow it carefully. If you are running Windows XP set a Restore Point or backup your registry using other software etc. before following the instructions.Let us know how it goes. Good luck :)
April 27, 200521 yr Just rename the fs9.exe to something like fs9.exe.old and you should be able to install directly over the top.If you want to do a full, clean install all you need to know is that the uninstaller only removes the registry entry created when FS is installed - if you plan on reinstalling to the same locatino then the uninstaller is completely unnecessary as far as I can see - just delete the FS9 main folder and everything is gone. Then reinstall. But any aftermarket addons or scenery additions will ALSO have to be reinstalled. If you just install over the top the only files that get returned to standard are the defaults (and any files that have been modified from default, of course). So you can actully reinstall FS9 without having to reinstall all your addons by using the first method. Allcott
