Ahhh, the wonders of WTF Did I just do; Part 1

Featured Replies

Hi all, excuse the title, but it sums it up.

The Machine; Win7 64bit-16gig mem - slightly OC'd to 4.0 meg/Nvidia 660/ two monitors

Using the free dx10 fix, everything was peachy. Then one day, the elders said to activate the new Nvidia DSR. Doing so was no problem, and no difference.. but it seemed to be doing no harm so I left it as is. Slowly... things began to deteriorate... badly.   Any weather whatsoever, and the frames would drop like bricks, and heavy heavy studdering began.  It was so bad that I considered a full re-install.

My God Jim... I'm a Doctor, not a 4 days work FSX re-installer!

So I said to myself... ##### did I do... what did I change to upset FSX so badly?   First of all, lets skip the horror story, and get down to the fix. Listen now... this is not a flub.. My sim has never been this smooth sense I've had one... So much so, I'm afraid to even now how this worked. but here it is;

Step one:

Reset global defaults in Nvidia Control Panel (Restore Key). Reset MS Flight Simulator X under program tabs.

Step two:

DELETED- Both-  FSX.CFG  entry's for [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660] - did NO other changes to the cfg.

Step Three:

Started FSX, opened options, and changed the the monitors to 1680X1050x32 with Anisotropic and AntiAlias. Closed/exit FSX.

Started Nvidia inspector, and made the changes per the DX10 guide: (And the following FSX.CFG changes)

My monitors can do 1920X1080, but for laughs and giggles , I tried both 1680X1050 and 1920X1080 and found no difference between the two in Full screen mode (ALT/Enter).

To my joyful surprise, my sim has ZERO studders in ALL WEATHER, even with the most complex AC like the Citation X, PC12, Flight1 KA 200, and Carenado TBM 800.

...

Added thoughts; I run Full screen mode, and drag pop ups to the second monitor. Some will say that this wont work well, but i can tell you that is does. I tried the psodo full screen thing and i hated it. Full screen mode works just fine. Even with ALL the pop ups running on the second monitor with the Carenado PC12... I had NO FRAME LOSS of ANY KIND, in ALL WEATHER.

Oh and the computer is using the legendary sandy bridge 2700.
