May 12, 200521 yr With the news a while back of the tie up between these two brilliant and very talented groups any news when their joint effort is due for release or any development information on their new combined product?Peter
May 12, 200521 yr Peter,They're working on it; still adding improvements. They'll release it when they are finished, probably this summer.Having been a beta tester for Damian, I can assure you it will be the best product possible when released.Personally, today wouldn't be too soon!JackD
May 12, 200521 yr Peter; Sorry for being "off topic" here, but as I was working thru a lineof severe thunderstorms last night I thought of you.:-lol I know how much you hope for more "Realistic" weather in FS andas a lifelong citizen of the Midwest U.S...."Tornado Alley":-jumpy I really wish you could fly here for a couple of years, as I know you'denjoy the challenge. Last night, before I left the Motel for my trip from KC to Des Moines,I got on the net and checked the forecast. It called for a possibility of severe thunderstorms, mainly northof Des Moines begining after 2400hrs. I looked at the Radar and itshowed almost clear conditions thru the entire MO-IA area EXCEPT fortwo small areas west of the IA border. By the time I hit Lamoni IA, at about 2200cst, lightning was all overthe western sky. The weather band radio was now forecasting two different "Super Cells"... tracking different directions...to kind ofmerge right in front of me. Supposed to produce golf ball size hail..rain exceding 1" per hr, and 75mph winds. I was just a little ahead of the brunt, but still took one heck ofa pounding. x( The NWS had Flash Flood warnings out predicting 3 to 5" of rain insome areas. OH! BTW: The World Record for rainfall over a measured period oftime is held by the town of Holt,MO; just north east of KCI. In 1949 they got 9" of rain in 48 Min.:-zhelp Back in 1967-68 I was returning to Offut AFB, NE from my home in MO, and hit severe thunderstorms in Maryville MO. It took me 1 hr 15 minto drive the 10 Mi to Clarinda IA. :-eek Oh well enough off topic posting...but do come over and try it..if you get the chance. May 13, 200521 yr / In 1949 they got 9" of rain in 48 Min.:-zhelp Land-Sakes-a-Goshen!!!, as my late grandma would have said. That's a frog-drownder!But that's Missouri. I've heard one man say he was sharpening a saw on the front porch watching the sunset while his wife, unbeknownst to him at the time, was standing on the backporch, trying to get out of the gully-washer. Heh. My but I would love to see some sweet weather in FS. The main problem is always the same though. When it gets here, I'll need to upgrade some hardware to see it. Actually did see a small twister when I was a boy, through the kitchen window. Took an old walnut tree down in the yard, about 50 feet from the house, and yet an almost-empty bottle of "bubbles" stood on the porch, didn't so much as shake. Wow.Sorry this is a mite off-topic, but danged if weather don't flabbergast me.-JeremyThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!
May 13, 200521 yr Hi Peter,We are getting closer by the day. No release date has been set.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
May 14, 200521 yr DennySorry about the late reply :-) Yes I am a weather nut because real world weather is the biggest challenge and threat to aircraft and more important the sky invironment is the medium that aircraft operate in.The dynamics of the aircraft and weather are equally important for a realistic flying experience. The visual eye candy of the sky needs to be matched by the dynamics of the sky and we still have a way to go with the sky dynamics. This is why the blending of Active Sky and Chris Willis of FS Skyworld is so important in making the best of whats available within the confines of MSFS.I hope in the next version of FS that Microsoft will really look at a truly dynamic living sky.NB I dont seek out thunderstorms as a challenge :-)In Light unpressurised twins which have to be somewhere at a certain time rather than pure pleasure flying, weather is an even greater challenge. The light twin has to operate in the worst of the weather, make a wrong choice and it can be a pretty frightening experience.Peter
