December 27, 201411 yr As most know, the default ATC can put you too low and sometimes too far out for the approach. Here are some things you can do to make it a little better. When ATC gives you that base vector make sure to decend to 7000 ft. As you get closer in then start down. If the pattern requires a downwind, make sure to maintain 10000 ft. ATC may complain on your altitude, but don't worry about it. Because it will still work. You can maintain within 10 degress of the assigned heading without them complaining. This can get your a little closer in to the FAF. ATC again may tell you to expedite. But just ignore. Hopefully this will help you somewhat, it's helped me a little bit. Thanks.
