Any point in replacing a 24" with a 27" monitor ?

I have a more than five year old 24" LG monitor. Could I improve something by getting a new 27" ? Two things has come to my mind

1) A bigger display is better since things like for example instruments get bigger which would be an advantage. Or is is the difference between 24" and 27" to small to matter?

2) Could a new monitor give better image quality simply because my current one is five year old ? I mean have not the monitors being developed and got better during five year ?
