March 6, 200620 yr Here is my goal: When I land I want to know exactly which gate ATC will assign me hence forward referred to as "my gate". I fly PMDG 747-400 (FS9). By going over various post here and going through the documentation for AFCAD I have come up with this. Hope that someone can verify if this will work or not.Using AFCAD I set the parking radius of "my gate" to something very low...like 3 mtrs > Now FS ATC will not assign this gate to anyone. Then I use the AFCAD/aircraft editor to set the parking radius of my plane to something slightly lower than the gate radius - like 2 meters > Now my plane is the only plane that ATC can assign "my gate".To make sure that "my gate" always will be assigned to me I go into AFCAD parking list and move "my gate" to the top of the list. I understand that ATC assigns gates to arriving AI flights as well as the player controlled flight from the top of this list provided that:1. The gate/parking area is avialable2. The paking radius of the gate is larger than the parking radius of my aircraft.I hope some ATC/AFCAD/AI expert can confirm that this MO will provide the expected result - or perhaps come up with a smarter way to do it.As I understand the entities parking type and parking code will only work with AI aircraft and not influence how ATC assigns gate/parkingsto the player aircraft.Best regardsMichael ChristiansenKarup - Denmark
March 6, 200620 yr Hi,Yes,this should work. Easy enough to test it yourself, though. :)However, the one side effect I see from this technique is that when stopped at the runway waiting to take off, AI aircraft coming up behind you will overrun you since they think you are only 2 meters long! The way I would handle it would be to give your parking space the code XXX (so no one parks there) and put it at the top of the list. As long as there are open parking places at the airport they shouldn't use that one. Then no radius tricks are needed.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
March 7, 200620 yr Hi TomThanx for your reply...and yes..I could test it but I was pretty sure that it would work. But I was looking for pro and cons and possibly an alternative solution that worked better...and it happenedThats what it is all about :-)Best regardsMichael
March 8, 200620 yr Yes, this will work. One other con is that if you land at an airport where you didn't set up your special gate, you'll probably get directed to a parking space that was intended for a very small plane :)Matt
March 8, 200620 yr good idea but with side-effectshere is my idea. change your gate number to something really high and a specific parking name. so south east parking 103make it the only south east parking name in the entire airport. and once you land you "should" be able to request "taxi to southeast parking" in the options
