Calling all Hughes H1 pilots!

Just purchased the Hughes racer. No matter what throttle, mixture, prop settings etc. I use the engine quits and blows black smoke after about 1-2 minutes of flight. Airspeed is only around 150 mph and not pushing the aircraft. Some setting is not right. Help appreciated.
