OpusFSI Upgrade Query

Featured Replies

I want to upgrade to FSI, but I haven't yet found any major change that justifies that for me. The elimination of cloud popping definitely would. Plus, I am not ready to jump ship and go over to the dark side. ;)

Regards,

Wil

OpusFSI does include a Selective Update mode to eliminate most if not all cloud shifts (please read the OpusFSI literature). However, I still recommend the improved OpusFSI Cloud Smoothing and also note OpusFSI requires far fewer weather updates. Just 2 or 3 on a medium haul flight, only once every 60 minutes or 160km on long haul flights. So I recommend the default mode with OpusFSI which is vastly better than OpusFSX in all aspects. Please read my reply post below regarding why it's best, especially in OpusFSI with its detailed cloud associations and medium/high level cloud layers. With the improved Cloud Smoothing it's hardly a problem. Stephen :-)

I have answered this many times before. You can use Selective Update mode but I still recommend you use our default Dynamic Weather Theme method to get the most detailed and accurate weather. Turn of Cloud Smoothing, use defaults and you only have a few updates in a flight. No problems as far as I am concerned. We will stuck with our Dynamic Weather Themes and providing the most detailed, realistic and accurate weather possibe.

The sim will redraw its individual clouds but Cloud Smoothing does preserve the actual cloud cover so no real problems. If you don't like the more accurate and detailed weather then you can use Selective Update mode. I still recommend our defaults though as I prefer the greater detail and realism rather than leaving the sim to interpolate anything at all.

I have explained why cloud shifts occur and that they will usually occur during Dynamic Weather Theme updates. A very minor thing since on a medium haul flight there is usually only two or three weather updates needed and on long haul only every 60 minutes or 160km travelled. So a very minor thing indeed. The plus side of course is that the Dynamic Weather Theme eliminates the need for the sim to use its totally rubbish weather interpolation, it's so bad that it will always detract from the accuracy and certainly the detail and realism of the injected weather. The silly sims interpolation will destroy much of the detailed cloud structures that Opus produces, destroying cloud associations and medium level layering. Use Selective Updates if you are happy with the sims interpolation, personally I prefer detail and accuracy. The sim certainly will not model the weather to even a fraction of the accuracy of OpusFSI.

Stephen :-)
