May 30, 200521 yr Is there any way of adding Helicopters to, or even replacing existing AI traffic with Heli's. I have found one very old post on this subject but being a newbie it seemed to be very complicated. Any ideas out there?
May 30, 200521 yr yep, entirely possible, only drawback is you have to use a fixed wing airfile and they take off like fixed wing, but look and fly great as AI.Do a search for Holger Sandmann, he has several packlages that get you set up for how to add AI helis. Biggest problem is lack of models for AI specifically, the best I have found to work are Owens jetranger as it has several LODs for multiplayer, which works great as AI, along with Bjorns MD500, Al Devins MD600 NOTAR and Deane Bauntons huey is ok if you on;y have a couple.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
May 30, 200521 yr Author Commercial Member Howdy, actually, you could start by looking at Jon Patch's excellent Ogden Point scenery add-on - vicenh04.zip - which includes a Sea King as AI. It'll give you an idea of how AI choppers "behave" in the air and on the ground. If you like what you see, then you can pick up some of my "starter kits". Also, good places to look for helicopter AI support and packages are Hovercontrol - http://www.hovercontrol.com/ (File Downloads, "Various-Misc" section) - and the PAI Military AI forum here: http://www.flightsimmer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=134Cheers, Holger
June 1, 200521 yr Thanks guys. Tried the Ogden point, works great. Looked at your Starter packs, are they geared for FS2002 only? as I have 2004. Once again thanks for your help.
June 2, 200521 yr Author Commercial Member Howdy, most of the helicopters and the key files - the aircraft.cfg and *.air combo - work well in FS2004. What doesn't work at all are the custom AFCAD files because the format has changed from FS2002 to FS9. You can assign AI chopper flightplans to any airfield but they will then taxi from regular gates and parking spots to the active runway just like any fixed-wing aircraft. That's why it's better to make custom AFCAD overlays that include very short (invisible) taxi- and runways, like Jon has done for Ogden Point. I never got around to transfer my FS2002 AFCAD files to FS9 but Rob Nieuwenhoven has kindly started on that process. His AI_heli_FS2004 file over at Hovercontrol - http://69.44.154.34/cgi-bin/ifolio/imageFo...ds/Various-Misc - includes all the AFCADs from my starter kits though not all of them are fully functional.Hope that helps.Cheers, Holger
