June 8, 200520 yr I am getting an "invalid directory" message when trying to install the Vans freeware 727. The installer does not allow you to chose a different target directory. In one of it's pages it asks you to select the FS version and offers three choices of panels, two payware and one default. Is there a way to manually install this aircraft? Thanks in advance,Mauricio
June 8, 200520 yr No - the installer insists on the default FS path. If you want to fake it out (assuming it isn't looking at the registry) you could create a C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9 path and see if that works... if not (and you know how) you could hand jam the path into the registry and then restore the correct path after the installer does its thing.DJ
June 8, 200520 yr I did not see any prompt for the FS Version--just a path prompt like that already mentioned. The aircraft only works with FS9.-John
June 9, 200520 yr John,I'm sure you did get a prompt for the three different panels. If you look closely, the instruction on the prompt is to "Please select FS version of your preference" instead of "select the panel you want to install".I sure didn't get a path prompt at all. When ready to install it says "This program will install the VANS 727 .. into Microsoft Flight Simulator 9: A century of flight". No path there.I am running FS9 and have a mock FS9 default path on my hard drive but cant seem to get the installer to point to that path. This makes the aircraft unusable for all us foreigners who may have "Archivos de Programa" instead of "Program Files". Bummer.Mauricio
June 9, 200520 yr I'm sorry--I did get a prompt for the panels but didn't notice the text underneath it. Obviously it's meant for selecting the panel and not the FS version, probably a verbiage error in the installer. I've used so many self executing install programs lately that I probably have things confused as far as the path is concerned. The install program is probably looking at your registry entry for FS9, which probably contains the text "Archivos de Programa". Perhaps you can change it, temporarily, to point to your mock path. The installer may then drop the aircraft into the mock path and you can move it from there. -John
June 10, 200520 yr I found entries in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE that point to Microsoft Flight Simulator with a sub folder "FS9". I tried modifying the default entries under this subfolder from "value not set" to the default FS9 path with no success when I tried to install the 727. "Invalid directory" keeps coming up. BTW, none of these registry entries had the current FS9 installation path. They just say "value not set". Am I looking in the wrong place? Maybe it has to do with the fact that my mock FS9 default path has no folders under Microsoft Flight Simulator so the installer doesn't find a panel to install? Can it be that no one else has had trouble installing this aircraft in non standard FS9 paths?I'd appreciate any suggestions.Mauricio
June 10, 200520 yr Try adding an empty aircraft folder, gauges folder and effects folder in the mock directory. Also, just copy fs9.exe there as well. Maybe the installer is looking for these folders--sounds like you are moving in the right direction.-John
June 11, 200520 yr Speaking of VANS,I love the freight trolly and the truck and the airstairs, however the FM leaves alot to be desired. 727's at 50% fuel, 15 flaps and 180 kts do NOT stall at 2 degrees of pitch while banking.Nor do they fall out of the sky at 150kts, same fuel, flaps 30 on approach -- the FM needs some serious work.On another note, the DF panel merge does work well.BestClayDF banner removed to eliminate conflict of interest
