June 12, 200520 yr A strange problem has arisen for me. Very often (but not always) when I load a flight (i.e. going to an airport) the load texture progress window disappears leaving a completely black screen and leaves Fs as nonresponsive. After a long while a message about FS crash and need to be closed down. What I recently have done isInstalled F1 FEDoing the tweaks suggested in a mail from PC aviatorInstalled Megascenery PNW and rerun its library updateMy systemAthon XP 2400+Soltek 75DRV5 MBRadeon 9800 Pro 128M 1 Gb 333 MHz RAM60 Gb harddrive with Win XP pro and FS9 10 Gb harddrive with Megascenery PNW and Megacity Dallas Forth WorthDoes any body have any ide what I can do or where the problem is?
June 12, 200520 yr Something may be amiss with your scenery.cfg file. Perhaps it's corrupted as it appears it's not finding all the scenery in the right place and cannot load the scenery textures properly. It could also be your video card drivers not installed correctly. Have you tried MegaScenery's MegaBooster program (free to try)? That may fix the problem. Also it would be nice to know what the error message was when FS9 shut down. You can look at it by looking at the Event Viewer within Administrative Tools>Computer Management. Sometimes it has recommendations for fixing the problem.Jim

There are two entry for a crashApplication error, event=1001 faulting module terrain.dll event 1000Application hang, event 1002BTW I tried startting FS in safe mode and then the problem didn't occur. What conclusion can be made? One more thing. I have at random FS start getting the message building database index file when starting FS.
June 12, 200520 yr Well I did a search on AVSIM for terrain.dll and got quite a few hits. What I recommended in my earlier thread were some of the recommendations for fixing your problem. You might want to check out the threads related to terrain.dll using the search engine. Sorry my recommendations did not work. A recent addon may not be installed correctly. Recommend you disable all recent scenery addon's and see which one is causing the problem. It still could be your video card drivers as they can get corrupted or registry entries are corrupt. Check your scenery.cfg and make sure the entries are in sequence and the areas/layers for each scenery area are the same numbers. Some fellow simmers have also fixed the CTD problem by renaming their FS9.cfg and restarting FS9 and letting the config rebuild itself. If that doesn't fix the problem you can go back and rename the orig config and get your tweaked settings back. Hope this helps.Jim
June 13, 200520 yr >Recommend you>disable all recent scenery addon's and see which one is>causing the problem. Did so and found out that it's Megascenery PNW that is the problem. This addon is really strange. After disabling it it was not possible to enable it again. It was listed as enabled but wasn't loaded. Then I uninstalled it. After starting FS I was told about a lot of missing PNW files, then rebuilding database index. And in the scenery library it was still listed as being there in spite of being uninstalled. After reinstalling it the problem still remained. Also isn't it strange that an addon scenery for PNW can crash FS when I Load a flight in Hawai?
June 14, 200520 yr I've had this happen with the default scenery. I didn't get a black screen or an error message. It just Crashed to the Desktop. I fixed it by re-doing the flight plan.
