Flew my first multiplayer session in a couple years the other night. I don't know why--I was just in the mood I suppose. I was very impressed at how stable the MP environment was. One thing that helped is we had all agreed to lock our fps to 20 fps. One issue with Multiplayer is that the fps need to be fairly consistent from user to user. It was never a problem in the days of FS98 when most users had very similar performance, but as simmers environments and configs went their separate ways, getting the fps in line became very important. What really impressed me about my multiplayer session was how stable it was with my being on dial-up. Since I still live in a rural area, whenever it rains I periodically lose carrier and my modem retrains until the ground has dried for several weeks. This happened to me a couple of times during my MP session, and I stayed connected. There's a unique joy in this hobby to share flight with others. I had forgotten how Multiplayer adds to this. I encourage people to give it a try. It's not just about the flying, it's about the company one can share.-John

It's definitely a good thing especially if you fly wit VATSIM. The only negative thing, that I see, about flying with VATSIM (or IVAO or any MP session) (especially during the fly-ins) is if you have a low to mid-range system. The frame rates drop dramatically then.I remember participating in the Alberta fly-in and my frame rates dropped to the single digits during approach.

I love Multiplayer and have been flying it mostly in the Misty Fjords area. I have found these last few months, that for some reason, people are reluctant to give it a try. I think they feel like it might be like a some Vatsim flight, were if they don't do everything perfectly, that they will be ridiculed. MP is basically a follow the leader type flight, when I fly it now with some people from Misty Fjords. Unfortunately, it still does not seem to be anywhere near as popular as it was in the FS98 days, and back then it had alot of stability problems. Today it runs as smooth as silk, using TeamSpeak for the audio. You don't have to have a window on your screen all the time like with SB, and I think MP and TS are great togetherI posted on the Florida Scenery Sight this morning the idea that maybe we could get a MP server going for that area. I think it would be quite popular. If you are interested, add your comments to the thread I started on their Forum. http://fs-freeflow.com/forum2/index.php?board=2.0

I've been flying with the Alaskan Winds group for some time now. We have a flight (usually) on Sundays and a "rerun" on Sat. following. Also some extra flight time such as the virtual Iditarod Run in which pilots picked out their fav team and flew support for them. All these flights are "follow the leader" and have been very entertaining, informative and sometimes downright scarey :D !Flights are almost all in the Ak area and BC, Canada. I tell all who ask; flying's MUCH more fun in congress with a group. We've even had some "Civil Air Patrol" type flights, not to mention the fire support we flew last summer. :D

I started to enjoy flying on Avsims "Bushnet" - but I was having so much trouble connecting at some times that I lost interest. Sometimes I could connect with no trouble at all - at other times for reasons unknown, I would get a "couldn't connect" message. I received all kinds of advice in the forums regarding this - but the end result was that it seems to be some sort of "combination" of just who is online at some particular time that determines whether I can connect or not.Barry

I'd love to do a multi but i always get the impression that everyone else will be a total aviation freak who will go mad and be dissapproved if i dont fly EXACTLY correct like putting the gear down too early or something, also i imagine all the other 'pro's' to kind of gang up. Hopefully im wrong and i can do a multi soon, any1 know any public server IP's?

Your fears are unfounded :Dnobody will make fun of you for any mistake, its called learning, we all had to do it at sometime. I fly VATSIM and control there and its a very friendly environment. If you screw up, thats fine as long as you dont cause a huge scene. We know thats gonna happen and its expected, and hey making mistakes is how everyone learns. IE my first big flight on vatsim, that loud horn thing is the gear up warning ;)

I'm not too sure 'zackly what's goin' on but I stay away from it now. Sure would love to see it pick up the pace a little. :DOne thing that bears repeating: if ya wants yer flight buddies to like ya, set your fps to 18-20 and please DON'T connect FSNav Multiplayer when there are others about. I wish I knew what is with FSNav; the idea (multi hookup) is fine, the execution isn't.
