need help with AFCAD2 file

Featured Replies

after installing free add-on scenery for RJAA, sim crashes during take-off roll and got msg says crash-object collision.can someone please point me where new afcad file should be located and how to install new scenery step by step?I often see planes start out on the grass or not properly aligned with runways.thanks in advance.

Not enough information provided. Need to know which scenery for RJAA you've installed, your folder arrangement and which Afcad file you're trying to use.A "crash object" collision would be from an object, usually built-in by the scenery designer....not from an Afcad file by itself.Scenery installation is covered in the "Help" files associated with FS, for starters; followed by the designers' instructions in his "Readme.txt", or some of us prefer our own system.....lots of choices.

Thank you for the reply.it's made by Kazuhiro Miyazaki and I've found the afcad file for this scenery as well from Avsim here. after copying scenery and texure folders to addon scenery folder I've put afcad file into C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Addon Sceneryscenery where all other afcad files are in.is this correct order for installation? Thanks in advance.

it is best to keep the AFCAD2 file with the rest of the BGL files for that scenery. These would be in the scenery subdirectory for the RJAA scenery you just installed. The most important thing about AFCAD2 files is that you avoid duplicates. Many traffic addons place AF2 files as will other addons as well.As the previous poster indicated, this is likely a problem with a scenery object not related to AFCAD. Is there a way you can contact the scenery author?J

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

I can not locate a copy pf RJAA by Mr. Mayazaki for FS2004. Are you using FS2002, or attempting to use FS2002 scenery in FS2004? While this mixing of scenery may or may not function correctly, it is probably still a good idea to make contact with the author. Also include the precise situation and location etc., when detailing your problem so that he can hope to emulate it. Using scenery meant for other versions will also cause Afcad files to be misaligned since different coordinates for the various reference points will have been used, even if the files were from the same author.I know this isn't the best fix in the world, but have you tried disabling crash detection within the sim and see what happens? This won't cure the misalignement, but it should solve the crash-object error.

Thank you very much for your inputs Gents.

I just noticed this thread and I need to add something to it because it is much more than just one scenery I'm having problems with - I have TWO versions of Narita (Shigeo Ishii and Mr. Miyazaki) and both have "invisible" objects causing object collisions.I have the AFCAD for FS2004 (this this summer 2005) by Andrew Angelopoulos and still got an object collision as soon as I touched down on runway 34L at NARITA (RJAA). With Shigeo Ishii's scenery, no collisions that I can recall on runways (I haven't used it in some time) but collisions on taxiways though this one may be an AFCAD issue.I also have a completely different scenery by Eiichi Shimizu for Tokyo's old airpot, Haneda, and it is made for FS2004 as per the author and it too has object collisions on taxiways.I have many airports in that region, though not Japan, and have no collisions whatsoever so I'm thinking this is a scenery/mesh issue. I disabled a JAPAN AND SOUTH ASIA mesh I had downloaded (freeware) and same problem. Either FS has a problem (as I believe Shigeo Ishii stated in the readme file but I have to verify this-he suggested to disable crash detection due to poor FS airport BGL or design etc...) or the sceneries have issues.Has anyone had problems with object crashes with either of these airports, whether it be DEFAULT FS2004 aiport or sceneries? Thanks for any help in advance.John

Object crashes are exactly that: airplane making contact with a 3D object. The object may not be visible, but its referrence point(footprint) may still be present. This would not be generated by mesh, terrain or Afcad properties, but a 3D object; probably a default item which isn't being excluded properly. The advice to disable crash detection is a solution. Different airports by different authors, although they may indeed represent the same site, means the method of excluding default objects would not necessarily be the same and thus, different results.

Thank-you for your insight, GCBarni. At least I know it is not mesh causing this.I'll try to contact the authors to see if they can be of help for both sceneries are really beautiful but landing with crash protection turned off is not the best way to test your landing smoothness and performance. Though, as you said, turning off crash protection is the only option and that's what I did the last two days when using Narita airport.John
