AI aircraft engine sounds

Featured Replies

HI,I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I've recently started adding some AI aircraft to my airport I created using Lee Swordy's AFCAD2. I've been using mainly PAI and AI Aardvark aircraft -great models.I have listened to the AI sounds in the FS9 sound folder. there seems to be quite a few different jet and turboprop engine sounds but when I add the AI plane to the airport all the jets and turboprops seem to have the same sounds. My question is this: How do the AI engine sounds get assigned to the AI aircraft and is it possible to change the sound assignments?I have tried to figure this out on my own but when my wife started complaining that the house sounds like an airport all the time,:-roll I figured it was time to ask for some expert advice. I have done a lot of searching on the internet and have found some tutorials on AI aircraft in general but nothing specific regarding the AI engine sounds.Any help, advice, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Tom :-)

Hi,Actually there just a few sounds, and I guess that FS is looking at the airfile to determine what type it is, and then random choose one of the variations for that type.I myself have them amplified a couple of times with the sound recorder, since normally I barely hear them.Johan[A HREF=http://jdserver.no-ip.com]Personal Server[/A]A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE!

Hi there,As Johan says, the AI sounds are "hardwired" (determined from a combination of engine type and aircraft weight) and the wav files (AI_* and XAI*_) reside in FS9Sound.There are quite a few replacement sound files for AI available in the library, for example the packages by Sandon Lyon. The only utility I know of that actually manages to expand on the default sound set is the commercial FSHotSeat http://www.fshotseat.com/ (all the AI functions are available in the "lite" version, FSHotSFX 1.1).Happy experimenting.Cheers, Holger

aisound_1.0.zipin the library. it's free, and it rocks!

Hi,Thanks, Big Al, for your response. I'll get that file for sure.Have a good 4th of July. I'm celebrating the 4th with a 5th.:+ Regards,Tom :-)

Hi,Thanks, Johan, for your reply. I found a tutorial on increasing the volume of the jet engines - using sound recorder. Neat! Now it really sounds like an airport back in my computer room. Thanks for the tip.Regards,Tom :-)

Hi,Holger, thanks for your reply. I sort of figured the sounds were "hard wired" since there was not much info about changing the engine sound assignments. I'll check out the library for sound packages. Big AL suggested one such package.Regards,Tom :-)PS: This experimenting is frustrating and potentially dangerous - I've crashed FS9 more than I'd like to admit. *:-* Thank goodness for backup programs.
